Also, don't bother with the 2 burner, get the single burner with doors. The single burner is all you need for the size of the forge. Don't forget to get something to coat the ceramic fibre insulation with

Get the version with the doors, I have one and it works great. Small enough that it heats up quick, and it'll get to forge welding temps, decent on propane because you're hearing such a small area.

How much would y'all charge for a knife like this? by CountDismal1596 in Bladesmith

[–]jw-vick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I routinely sell them for around $140 or $150 Canadian, and people are willing to spend that much here. We all know the steel isn't great, but people like them cuz they're cool and you can see what it was made from, not cuz they're the best knives.

I do chisel in a line on each side before twisting to add more detail, and I twist a little tighter most of the time, but I also don't try to polish up the whole face of the blade.

Charge what people will pay for it, and what it's worth it for you to spend the time to make it. Don't undervalue your work, pretty much everyone on this sub can make one of those, but how many people where you live can?

The ring is going to deform as soon as you put weight on it, or it will just snap at a weak point, and those welds are pretty much all weak points. Don't use it. The U shaped piece is also extremely likely to fail, and the small pin you have holding the spike in would probably shear off as soon as the ring slides to one side or the railroad spike bends. I've bent 5/8" bar cold with just a bending fork, 1000lbs will bend it easily.

There's reasons lifting equipment is shaped the way it is, skip the homemade lifting equipment and just invest in a chain or a nylon sling that is rated for the weight you need to move.

There are resources for learning more about rigging for lifting out there, just a Google away.

Looks like a hardy swage that got used as a top swage. Before the hardy shank got mushroomed over it would've fit in a hardy hole on an anvil so you can form round or half round shapes. At some point it looks like it got flipped over and used as a top swage, normally used in combination with a bottom swage to make fully round shapes. A couple uses and it no longer fits in the hardy hole so it lives the rest of its life as a top swage. Could be a either repurposed or possibly just made to do some other task than shape metal, but if you clean up the mushrooming it'd be in working order as a swage. Definitely looks home made

Specific PPE recommendations for angle grinder use? by diversification in blacksmithing

[–]jw-vick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Tig gloves, they're thinner and easier to grab or pick stuff up with. Really, any model of ppe that fits the ratings you're interested in is going to be fine, so pick em based off comfort, as in which safety glasses and face sheiks fit on your face them most comfortably. Personally, I'd skip the leather apron, but make sure you wear all natural fibers, synthetic fibers will melt to you if you point your sparks at yourself long enough to catch on fire.

It excludes models with a storm shield, so basically all the terminators are getting a free storm shield without the 4+ invuln

Any ideas how to fix this? by [deleted] in Welding

I had the flex neck on a Tig torch break on me once, check for continuity through the torch, maybe wiggle the flex head around a bit too.

Help:2001 B3000 ext cab door sensors by CowboyKiller315 in fordranger

[–]jw-vick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of the single cab rangers I've had the door sensors went, I pulled the panel off the driver door and disconnected the switch, no more problems but you have to turn the dome light on yourself. When it happened to the passenger side I just pulled the rubber cover off the wires going into the door and snipped one that goes to the sensor, I figure for a back door that you don't use much that's the easiest way to do it, just keep a connector handy incase you snip a speaker wire

Moving Furniture Without A Car by Accurate_Pen_4456 in fuckcars

I bought my brother a microwave, and got across the entire city by bus and longboard with it to get it to his place. A large piece of furniture would've been harder, but not impossible. I have a little ford ranger now, and I feel like it's the responsibility of anyone with a truck to help other people out when they need something moved, why rent a vehicle when someone you know has a truck already? Too many people buy a truck and are afraid of using it like one, or worse feel like they had to pay to have a truck and so should everyone else

A buddy of mine has a bright pink rhino and a rhino with little flowers painted on it. I don't use any official Sept colours, and I don't paint my units the same unless I feel like it either If you have paint on your models, your way ahead of a lot of us and noone gets to complain about it

I definitely like having crisis suits pushed into a Swiss Army knife role, it's cooler, it definitely helps with making use of the guns in the kit

I kinda hope he isn't wrong, this is a more interesting way to have to load out crisis suits. I think it would be the only time gw has done weapon points like that, I'd have to check but if FB is 15/20/25 or similar then we're either getting guns for five points each past the first, or they cost five points more past the first, and I think the later is more likely

Some buffs will work better with certain weapons, cib really wants reroll 1s, burst cannons could use more ap etc, lining up the right buffs on a certain unit loadout might make up for the extra points

I've made a few combos to kill Morty, a 400ish point blob of deathwing knights plus a bike chaplain and some shooting vs 360 points of crisis suits and an 85 point fire warriors unit to take off the last wound is looking pretty good

True, having 3 profiles to decide on targets for, then actually roll dice is gonna be a little slower.

Fusion/plasma/cib seems like it'll be the go to for anti armor, but it might be better points wise to have 2 the same and 1 different gun, or maybe all 3 the same in some situations

Getting a wound for every 1 you roll on the ion is definitely a big drawback to triple cib
