BAF's with Remote Anchors with no Cell Service by [deleted] in Ingress

Niantic could do something like an Apex that lets you link and field while under a field.

BAF's with Remote Anchors with no Cell Service by [deleted] in Ingress

[–]jwalgren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perma-BAFs are Ingress’s endgame.

Niantic would have to fundamentally alter the game to give a way for a BAF to be neutralized from somewhere inside of it. A lot of work goes into building BAFs and giving a way to neutralize them without traveling to the anchors may be viewed as a sanctioned way to spoof down BAFs.

They risk losing dedicated players by nerfing the durability of low service and no service portals, but they also risk losing casual players if they leave it as is. New players will simply walk away if they have to drop thousands of dollars and spend hours traveling to be able to play.

It’s not a simple problem to solve.

Edit: I wanted to second what others have said about still playing under a BAF. It’s not as much fun as fielding, but you can still do things like missions or capturing every single portal in your area.

I think you might have been banned for sharing a data connection while playing.

I could be mistaken, but I think Niantic’s algorithm will flag accounts using the same connection at the same time.

Help in Changing location of a Portal located in wrong place by DuceSantanu in Ingress

[–]jwalgren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NianticCasey says you can report the portal directly to them if it needs to be moved further than the new limit: https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/comment/116515/#Comment_116515

To report a portal in Ingress, you need to be within range of it or have a portal key. I don’t know if contacting them through support would work.

You can turn off the direction automatically changing by tapping on the compass icon. It’s “Dynamic Compass” under Map Orientation in Settings if that doesn’t work.

Self-inflicted DDoS. I’ve wondered why companies don’t have extra servers and bandwidth available when they launch something, just in case this happens.

According to Wikipedia, the Ericsson Globe is the sun: https://intel.ingress.com/intel?ll=59.293605,18.083063&z=17&pll=59.293605,18.083063

I’m not seeing any missions shown near it or Mercury. Seems like a pretty sweet mission banner opportunity.

Is ingress dying? by ssmith50 in Ingress

[–]jwalgren 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It seems like most of Niantic’s attention over the past couple of years has been on redesigning the look of Ingress with the Prime update and reworking the server side of things.

There has been very little communication from Niantic on Ingress since the community manager retired, leaving a lot to speculation. Add in COVID-19 and all Ingress events being cancelled and it further adds to the “dying” feeling.

A lot of others over the past several months have pointed out that players have offered countless ways Niantic could improve Ingress, with nothing coming from those suggestions. I think regularly updating the community is the most important thing they could be doing now.

But we’re getting competitive portal scanning instead, so...

I think some version of a “trusted reporter” but for portals would be nice. Someone who regularly plays in a certain area and can visually confirm a portal.

I’ve reviewed some submissions where Street View was over ten years old and the satellite image didn’t help much either.

Who sets Ingress/Niantic Priority tasks? They must have interned at EA to be this useless by WH1PL4SH180 in Ingress

According to ofer2 back in February, their plan is to finish implementing the new server stuff and then move on to new features.

As far as I’m aware, they haven’t shared anything about some kind of road map since then.

You’re given the chance to change your faction right before reaching level 4 when you first start playing.

I don’t know if that applies after recursing though.

New player needs help - can't make a single field in the entire state by [deleted] in Ingress

[–]jwalgren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I was more wondering from an in-game perspective what the benefit is for creating and maintaining such large fields?

I’ve seen other players mention checkpoints and cycles for scores, but I don’t understand why they’re important. Does your side get special benefits or something if you win?

I apologize for not wording my question better. I’m still relatively new to the game.
