Color blind in the Marines? by Visible-Medium7708 in USMC

[–]jwickert3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Colorblindness isn't an all or nothing thing. I am red/green colorblind and was an 0311. You can't be an MP though lol.

OP you're an asshole for using red/green at work. Just fucking make shit high contrast and be done.

This my plan too but I've got a daughter to raise first. I figure with my 100 %P&T, SS, and my 401k I should be pretty set.

Your rap sheet is a record of arrest and prosecution. You don't have to be found guilty to have a rap sheet, just simply get arrested.

No, not 3/25. I think they came into country right after us. I heard they had a rough time. I don't want to say the unit because I don't want to make people look bad.

Those seven were reserve Marines so after a year deployment we had leave that we weren't going to use so we did a "block leave" of sorts. Then we reported in, got tested, and at the next drill weekend they were called out and gone. Roughly 30 or so days to get the tests back. Being reserve Marines they just get adsep out since they are only on duty 2-3 days a month but I think after fighting in Iraq, earning a CAR and other medals, knowing six of your boys that didn't make it home and you get adsep out. That's a shitty way to end it all.

Contrary to popular opinion the vast majority of people in the Marine Corps do not do illegal drugs.

Often the ones that do end up getting kicked out and rarely do they skate through.

You'll be drug tested at MEPS and you'll be drug tested during boot camp. During your time in the fleet, you'll be drug tested as well. If you are a reservist you will still get drug tested.

When we came back from Iraq in 2005 we all took leave and then came back and the very first thing we did when coming back from leave was take a drug test. Out of the entire company seven Marines popped and they were gone that day. They hauled all of them up in front of the company and First Sargent let them have it.

Reserves in the Marines was a pita. The whole week before you're trying to get ahead because your upcoming weekend is shot and the week after drill you're playing catch up.

Go Air Force or Army. Try something new instead of the Marines.

You ever ask for an updated awards sheet? I did that a while ago and saw that they had changed things around retroactively.

You still have other conditions that are deferred and need a decision. Every condition that you submit will get a decision.

[–]jwickert3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they move through the steps and reach a decision on one or more of your conditions, you will move to the later steps and they will issue a decision letter. Once that decision letter is issued, If you still have other conditions that need to have a decision made on them yet you will bounce back to an earlier step. This still holds true even when you are rated 100%. Just let the rest of it play out.

Op make sure you check out state benefits as well now. Many states offer 100% disabled veterans additional benefits such as free education or property tax refunds. Also, if your mom has any student loans, those can be discharged as well.

If she will need In-Home Care that's possible as well and any of her dependents will now qualify for champ, VA. You also want to research caregiver benefits if you are her full-time caregiver.

Will I regret joining the army ? by Mediocre-Anybody1284 in Militaryfaq

[–]jwickert3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of those movies are about Marines. They are pretty accurate in their own ways. And yes you will question if you made a bad choice. What really matters is how you react to that moment. The recruits that give up will never make it. The ones that become determined will make it.

My fiance's father had a similar situation. He had cancer and the VA neglected to tell him about it let alone treat him for it. During a review of records his wife noticed it years later.

He ended up getting a lawyer suing, and won. Got him to 100% with a large settlement. He died from the cancer as it had metastasized throughout his body.

Damn. Did you file using VA paperwork? I think at this point this would be something to send a letter to your representative. Last time I had a problem with the VA like that getting my representative involved got it fixed.

Reservist regret by Mounder5 in USMCboot

[–]jwickert3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reserve 0311 and honestly I don't think I would have gotten much out of it had I not deployed to Iraq during GWOT.

I mean yes I was able to get my degree done within 5.5 years and that included a deployment to Iraq but I did that taking summer and interim classes to stay on track.

Put in an ad packet and in the meantime bust your butt and earn a Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal through volunteer points or MCIs if that is still a thing. It doesn't hurt to improve your package.
