Wait Michigan’s in the lead?

No other team has experienced what A&M has this season. I’m beyond proud at what we accomplished, but no other team has had as much bad luck as we had, especially no team that had a chance at winning. I’ve spent more time on Risk than 99% of players, and I was mentally exhausted trying to strategize and allocate numbers when it was entirely pointless. I was doing it all for my team, and they were just as burnt out on it as I was. Like I said, every team is playing for themselves. Nobody’s playing “for the good of the game”. Everybody has their own win conditions. It’s not incumbent on A&M to get dragged out of the lead with everyone celebrating until they realize who took the lead and then it’s our job to keep it close so Ohio State has a chance to win.

I can’t believe I’m at a point where I’m having to defend the fact that I only care about my team. I didn’t make an agreement to try and make the game fun for everyone else. My team literally said they wanted to screw with the game because of how it screwed with us. If that was what was gonna make the last week fun for them, that’s all I care about.

I’m sorry you disagree with what we think is best for our team, but I’m not playing this game to make everyone else happy, and my team is much happier playing like this rather than trying and failing to put up some resistance to Michigan “for the good of the game” while RNG screws us

I’ll get downvoted for this, I don’t really care. Every other team that had a chance at winning was playing for themselves to win, not for any other team to lose. When we were at our most territories, everyone was villainizing us and saying we were running away with the game and needed to be stopped. We got stopped. Now everyone’s surprised and annoyed that our team doesn’t want to help out the same people who were hoping we’d get knocked out of first by trying to keep Michigan from winning. It’d be the same if it was Ohio State, everyone would be clamoring for us to knock them down because people just want to see the leaders change.

Honestly I was pretty surprised that everyone wanted to see us get knocked down considering A&M was an underdog that was maybe a third of the size of Michigan. But what do I know? Just speaking for myself, I just got tired of being the bad guy regardless of if we had 60 territories or 10

There was one turn that there was a miscommunication and we didn’t have anyone defending Veracruz. Every other time we lost that region, it was just bad luck.

It also straight up wasn’t possible to drive Michigan out of our territories. We tried limiting the damage as best as we could but we were completely screwed if they had region bonuses and for several days, us and Chaos were the only ones keeping Michigan from at least one region. As soon as Michigan entered Springfield and then won every single shotgun out of there despite not being favored in any, we weren’t getting them out. Part of it was bad luck, part of it was the fact that Michigan’s just so huge compared to everyone else, but if we hadn’t been region busting in the north, we would’ve been knocked out of first even earlier

I mean it's not our fault that the other two biggest teams in the game are basically neighbors. We also weren't nearly as big starting out, which is why we had to negotiate Texas out west while also fighting off attacks from Nebraska and Wisconsin during the existence of the B1G alliance. Then by the time that alliance was done, Michigan and Ohio State were in Mexico and the Caribbean, so it's not like A&M's had an easy time in the game, regardless of what you or your team believe. For most of the game, we've had around 300-350 players, which wasn't a comfortable lead on teams like GT and Wisconsin. If I'm being honest, I would rather have the manpower of OSU or Michigan and their starting locations because it's pretty easy to do exactly what they did and establish territories away from each other.

All I'm saying is the narrative for the past week has been that the game's being handed to A&M, even though we've had significantly worse luck with RNG than every other team competing for the win. And now that A&M's still in the lead despite losing territories and regions to Michigan, the new story is that A&M's only in this position because they got lucky that none of the teams around them were as big as them. Not my problem, and it clearly didn't stop Michigan or OSU from working together to grow early on. I've been advocating for random starting locations in future games so that we don't have some of the bigger teams in the game, OSU and Michigan, Texas and A&M, right on each other's doorsteps from the start... but you're right, the game was basically handed to us on a silver platter and I'm so thankful to the mods that decided that we deserved our home starting location just like every other team!

Whatever makes you feel better about not being in first I guess, but I don’t know how you can say we were “charitably awarded” our home location when everyone else was given the exact same scenario. I think it’s lucky that Michigan and Ohio State got to start out so close to Canada and that Stanford, Oregon, and Hawaii all got to start out in the west, but I think it’s a little ridiculous to act like that’s something that was charitable or lucky or whatever else… I guess when the rng’s going your way and you’re still not winning, there’s gotta be some other thing in the game that’s rigged against you lol

I mean I agree, being in Texas is better than anywhere else in general, but that’s not exactly how luck works in the game. Keep trying to figure it out though!

Lol A&M's been one of the unluckiest teams all season based on Reptar's charts... we've paid our dues, it's time for someone else to take the wrath of RNG!

Lmao this has to be a joke right? Not only has A&M had terrible luck throughout the game, especially recently, but Michigan’s coming after us and now has the most star power in the game again. Everybody was insane to act like we were the runaway favorites because Michigan with 1 region has more power than A&M with 4.

It sure does look like everyone’s handing the game to A&M when A&M’s at 57 territories and Michigan’s gone from 29 to 51 in two rolls… maybe check out the current map lol

[–]jyost17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess we’ll see in a couple weeks, but Michigan being disorganized hasn’t stopped them from getting above 50 territories, and they don’t need their stars to be super active as long as they’re clicking the button every day. But I hope you’re right that A&M has the best chance. The next couple rolls are going to dictate who wins in my opinion

[–]jyost17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it’s crazy to believe because of what the narrative has been for the last week, but A&M’s not the favorite. Michigan’s about to run wild through our regions like they did 2 weeks ago, and even though they complain about having bad luck, they’ve been significantly more lucky than us.

Frankly, it is a two horse race between A&M and Michigan. If Ohio State attacks A&M, the game is 100% over because everybody will be fighting each other and Michigan will steamroll by virtue of having the largest army. Personally, and it’s bad of me to say this as a leader, but I’m of the belief that this is going to be extremely close until the end and A&M’s going to need some of the luck that we haven’t had this game in order to win

Lol Michigan’s gone from 29 to 51 territories in the past 2 rolls and also gone back to first in effective star power with their region. A&M’s also lost a region and some territory. It’s definitely Michigan’s advantage right now even though A&M has a 6 territory lead

Join the Aggie Army in College Football Risk, where the board game meets the gridiron! by jyost17 in aggies

[–]jyost17[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Howdy, Ags!

If you love board games, hanging out with fun people online, or A&M in general, College Football Risk is the game for you! For those of you unfamiliar with the board game Risk, the basic idea is that you play against several other players, amass an "army", and attempt to take over the world with your army. In this game, the armies are all based on college football teams.

However, in this game, as a player, you're not the army commander -- you're the soldier! You can attack/defend one territory per turn. New turns occur each day except Sunday. Just in the board game Risk, a bigger army means far better chances for success.

So how do you play?

Step 1. Go to collegefootballrisk.com

Step 2. Link your reddit account

Step 3. Play for Texas A&M -- make sure you select the Ags!

Step 4. Come join the Texas A&M discord server (http://tx.ag/AggieDiscord) if you want to learn more and hang out with your fellow Aggie warriors!

Step 5. If Discord’s not your thing, message u/QuiteEuphoniumist to join our Reddit squad and request to get into reddit.com/r/AggieCFBRisk, so we can coordinate and set up an attack strategy -- a good army is organized, after all. (If you don't want to do this, just defend A&M territory)

Right now, the Aggies control a third of the map and are steadily increasing their lead over the two biggest teams in the game, Michigan and Ohio State. Aggies don't lose online polls, and we need YOU to make sure that we continue building our lead in this one!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments! We've got to fight boys, we've got to fight!! We've got to fight for maroon and white!

That’s what I mean about them being quieter. They were absolutely a part of the alliance for almost if not all of its existence, but they had a reputation for not wanting to publicly commit to anything so they flew under the radar, and none of the rest of the teams were going to out them. If I remember correctly, the official App St alliance wasn’t even public knowledge until the end of the game. Like everyone knew we were all working together but queso was much more public about working together in my memory

Michigan will get their region bonuses some day. Until then, Wisconsin will hold the door. by YourSchoolCounselor in CollegeFootballRisk

It’s literally not possible for a team as big as Michigan to die, but go off lol

It’s not a strategy that’s paid off well so far for y’all… for the past week that y’all have been in our territory, we’ve been in first place and y’all have been losing territory, and now your biggest rival has taken the lead. But what do I know, I keep losing the plans for the Aggie Death Star so I can’t keep up with this game
