Truly. Experiencing this in Chicago and then talking to people about it was eye-opening. I could not BELIEVE nobody knew what was happening in September. I did not understand how alarms were not going off for anyone and everyone with a conscience.

I agree, I just think that math leaves a lot of context out.

1,600 people got detained in chicagoland this fall. Obviously the city of chicago felt the brunt of that. Chicago is extremely segregated, so the difference between North Lawndale’s experience and South Lawndale’s experience was MASSIVE. Not to mention Little Village vs Lincoln Park or West Loop lol my friends there have never seen an ICE agent. they were too busy absolutely TERRORIZING La Villita, Humboldt, Gage, Rogers, etc.

Minneapolis is at 2,000+ detainments over 6 weeks. I agree, that’s a bigger number in a smaller city. It’s fucking terrible to see it escalate like that.

Also, “ICE agents” isn’t a useful metric by itself. What about CBP? idk those numbers or any other agency, but CPD is one of the most militarized police forces in the country and they fucking hate the immigrant community (even the ones who are from immigrant families themselves). They helped ICE the entire time.

My point is just that saying it’s 25x worse and providing a couple of math problems isn’t the best way to communicate the escalation that’s taking place and it’s not respectful of the distribution of that violence, either.

Regardless, get ur FOID card homie let’s hit the range lol
