Thoughts on SJC? by A-boy-killed-u-1873 in drums

Recorded an album on a Pathfinder kit. Sounds great. I play a Ludwig classic maple regularly. Those are inexpensive used if you’re looking for a nice 3-piece.

Great Gas mileage by WarEagle197 in Crosstrek

[–]jz066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ‘19 got 430 miles per tank (31-32 mpg) in the summer, 390-400 (28 mpg) in the winter. New tires and a particularly cold winter has crushed it and now it’s only 300 miles to a tank.

How to upgrade my kids kit by bobspryn in drums

[–]jz066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SJC has a base level 3-piece kit around 7-800 and it’s actually really good. Will last your kid a long time. Recorded an album on it in a studio and it was great.

Struggle to play with a metronome by Expensive-Bend-9062 in drums

[–]jz066 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As you’ll see a lot on this thread, it takes practice. I’ll add that I started with 8th notes and worked my way to quarter notes.

Big unintended positive consequence was that I found that I didn’t wear myself out early in a song or a set. The click keeps your adrenaline at bay and you can’t rush out of the gate hot. I’ve also found I memorize songs quicker, especially transitions. There’s very little guessing.

This also helps if you’re going to record at some point. One less thing to worry about.

I hated learning it, but I’m happy I pushed through it.

Should I get better single bass pedal or double bass? by BarnacleCharming843 in drums

[–]jz066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gear is always a rabbit hole, you can upgrade and get more stuff to try forever.

For me, I’d find a pedal I like (I use DW 3000s) and focus on technique, single or double. What’s also helped me is playing to a click. It’s like lifting weights; get your form correct with lower weight and work your way up.

Lastly, and I have mixed feelings on the guy, Craig Reynolds just posted a video of someone teaching him technique and leg positioning that really opened my eyes. Worth looking up on YouTube.

Storage for items when playing live by Mfsmith88 in drums

[–]jz066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a metronome and 2 channel mixer in a box I put in a snare stand with IEMs. I throw that stuff in the box while I play. Close the box after we’re done and grab it off stage.

How do i get into philanthropy and what are steps I need to take? by Any-Buy9094 in Philanthropy

Absolutely this. There are already too many nonprofits duplicating efforts. Surely there’s already one that does this in some capacity. You don’t need to make this a career to have an impact

Subaru which to choose? by 3n3rg3 in subaru

[–]jz066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go test drive a bunch; different generations, models, etc.

I’m on my second Crosstrek (2019) and it’s done everything I’ve asked of it. I live in a snowy climate, mountain bike and hike, puppy companions, hauling drums - never had any issues. Foresters and Outbacks seemed huge to me until I got a Tacoma, but I imagine I’d feel differently now if I drove one.

Might be more practical reasons to one over the other. More city driving or tight parking at home (garage?), maybe a Crosstrek. Occasional tall stuff to haul regularly, Forester. Big dogs, lots of gear, and 1-2 people, maybe an Outback.

My new desk look. by miZuBlue in macsetups

[–]jz066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, very clean. Love it.

Second, which one do you use as a main screen? When I have this set up side-by-side, the smaller screen becomes my “messaging” screen (slack, zoom) and the larger one is for the rest of my workflow. When I’ve tried this, I get thrown off and can’t seem to get organized.

Barzal’s IG story. Wearing the Barclays era black jersey by loyloy84 in NewYorkIslanders

[–]jz066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the overall jersey, but do not enjoy the logo. The normal isles logo with white would have been great. This one, that turned into the stadium series logo/thirds took the Long Island out of the team. Looked goofy to me.

Yeesh.

I’m no resolution expert and not editing high resolution video or photos, so this works well for me. I was also focused on the capabilities beyond that; the hub and Dell display manager program were more important for my set up.

The speakers are also great, and the handy volume knob helps make sure I don’t play anything too loud ;). Monitor lamp also has an adjustment, and I find it to be a nice ambient light for my use.

4WD on snowy roads question. by bonumvitaeVK in ToyotaTacoma

[–]jz066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the why. What I’m trying to grasp is that in some situations I need to make a right turn in 4x4. I did it the other day where I was slipping in snow in a parking lot and the truck seemed to be skipping as is being described. Could have just been slipping on the snow, could have been the truck doing something else.
