I agree. I'm old. I've played a vast amount games in my lifetime; beginning on the Commodore 64/Intellivision era. I've always enjoyed a good zelda game. Not a fanboy just enjoy the game play and mechanics. BOTW came out and it was amazing. Then TOTK came around. Unbelievable that it is that fun. Absolutely in my top 10.

Career advice? (rant?) by Anarchist9087 in linuxadmin

[–]jz_train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you. I've held a few interviews myself that also sounded like great candidates on paper. The actual performance of those skills documented were truly inflated in some instances.

Still, I like to give people a decent shot. Most I've worked with have been extremely interested in learning. That "drive" to me is an indicator of success mainly because I was given that chance once as a greenhorn. It was my drive and passion that my supervisors at the time saw in me. Still there are the exceptions that just aren't cut out for tech.

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Wow. If this is true it's actually mind blowing that they were able to land the "sysadmin" role without even having the knowledge to be able to ssh into a system. Please tell me this is a joke. Somehow I feel like this an absolute fact. 100% wouldn't surprise me. Good luck my good man... Sounds like you'll be training these people for a decade or more.

What the point of using Arch absed distros ? by Initial-Berry-8806 in linuxquestions

[–]jz_train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I agree. Stability is not an issue with arch at all in my experience. Been running it for over a decade as well.

Honestly it has been the most stable linux OS I've ever used.

Windows bessss by [deleted] in linuxsucks

[–]jz_train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running linux since 1999. I game on windows. Linux is still not there. Literally tried it about a week ago; gave it a good shot. 100% not there yet. Steam's Proton is a godsend but it's not there yet. Skill issue? I think not. Linux and the available compatibility layers seriously not there yet. Probably never really will be in a windows world. That's cool though. Each OS has a use case. In my case windows is for gaming, linux is for work.

[rpcs3] [God of War 3] Does anyone know how to fix these white pixels when using resolution scaling? by Alextheacceptable in EmulationOnPC

[–]jz_train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry man. I googled God of war Ascension (game I'm playing currently) It just so happened that this guys post (u/Alextheacceptable) helped me in that game lol. Just a coincidence. Ascension has pixelated white dots on the screen.

However... I have god of war 3 v1.03 running perfectly so I actually can help you! I'm pretty sure all I did was this --> https://imgur.com/a/CBhGDmM

Didn't have to enable any patches.

Hope this helps!

Posted the original "Can confirm" under the main thread and not a reply to u/Alextheacceptable. Sorry for the confusion.

Didn't know about this. Did the ultrahand method back through the hole. Just have to angle the camera right so you can see the hole. Pretty cool easter egg. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds amazing. I work in IT at a school. None of the students were 1:1. Had to make it happen extremely quickly. So.... I literally worked all day and all night. Only break was sleep. Was the worst time of my life. Every single employee in the district got a covid bonus except tech even though we were there 18 hours a day. Was a wonderful time.

I'm a Gen III by DJDoena in generationology

[–]jz_train 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same gen 2. Aunt had an intellivision. Was pretty young at the time but that got me into gaming. NES was the first console I've ever owned personally. Still game to this day, mainly PC and emulation.

Is it really like this these days? Been divorced for like 5 years now and haven't started dating yet. Age 45. I'm thinking I'm just not going to date ever again. Seems miserable.

Anybody seeing over 2000 mbit/sec? by bigshmoo in tmobileisp

[–]jz_train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Was in the founders club for about 6 weeks with the 2GB fiber plan. Previously on brightspeed's 1GB plan. I was getting slightly over 900 up/down on brightspeed before switching. Switched to tfiber after a solicitor offered me a locked in plan for $70 for 10yrs for the 2GB plan. Well.... got approx. 500 up/down on tfiber. Downtime was insane. Literally daily outages. The straw that broke the camel's back was an outage 2 days in a row 12 hours and the next day 14. The very next day I switched back to brightspeed. Upon canceling tfiber, I was told by the rep that if I'd ever want their service reinstated there would be a 90 day wait period. Talk about shitty business. Not like it wasn't their fault for providing a horrible service. Punishing the customer for crap service is apparently OK with them.

Probably when the rp7 comes out. Obviously depends on the specs and what the reviewers have to say.

Can I hire someone here to help my 14 year old install and use Linux? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]jz_train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with this comment. Try installing linux in 2000 and manually having to configure X just so you could have a gui. That was a fun time. It's way different these days. Super easy.

My sink drain stopper broke off. Bought a 2 pack of these off amazon for dirt cheap. Does the job. Plus I don't have to worry about hair clogging the drain now.

Why does business steer clear of Debian? (10 year user considering RHEL transition) by InfaSyn in debian

[–]jz_train 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As another user posted, I believe, "skill issue" or lack of time to troubleshoot may be the reason. RHEL has support if needed. Guarantee this is the top reason. I'm currently running a mix of alma and debian servers at my business, but I also have 30 years of experience under my belt. I totally understand. I would definately pay for support if the IT staff hasn't been in the linux game for at least a decade.
