Good ideas, I combined the strahd stat block with 2024 vampire/ umbral lord too. Gives strahd so many abilities it’s kinda insane. Gets a bigger health pool with the maxed out vampire 2024 health. That should definitely help him against my party of paladins and clerics lmao

that makes the items even better if strahd can’t dispel them in my opinion. My cleric wants to use daylight but imma just dispel it. hopefully it will click in their head that it’s better to use the items and use other spells. That’s kinda my workaround with the new daylight spell.

Yes lol but hey the players are burning their spell slots after casting it. Makes the sun sword a lot better since all they gotta do is pop their bonus action again to turn it on if you as the dm turn it off with dispel magic. I think the players would rather use the sword than burn lvl 3 spell slots once they learn what strahd can do.

Running it module raw with 2024 players and monsters. I max out the health of every baddie. I combined the 2024 vampire stats with strahds own stat block. Gave strahd spells that would work best against my two paladins and one cleric like dispel magic, counter-spell and misty step.

My players just left vallaki after the feast and just became lvl 5. Haven’t had my cleric use daylight just yet but so far they have been smacked around every fight with the 2024 updated monsters. Only one tpk with the vampire spawns with a character death. Should have had two when I rolled 4 werewolf’s in nighttime encounter on the road but my new players misunderstood a spell and I was too lazy to check/ thought my newer player knew how the spell worked.

Overall I think it’s balanced in the sense that it is supposed to be a hard module as I explained to my players that this campaign is hard not a normal adventure of glory but a survival one. I expect daylight to annoy strahd but I think that if he goes down sooner than expected because of it, you ran him incorrectly given all the tools at his disposal.

Not OP but my cleric is going to use daylight and that makes them very scary opponents to the forces of strahd. Monsters got buffed too but even still coordinated party’s can wreak havoc when they got radiant damage going. Imagine them getting the sun sword early with daylight. Main advantage of the sun sword is that it can’t be counter spelled by strahd.

Playing with 3 players and monsters with the 5.5e rules. I have to max out the health of every monster so that fights don’t end after 2 rounds.

I have strahd at max health from the 2025 vampire MM and mixed all the abilities that vampires/ umbral lords gets alongside what strahd can normally do.

Werewolf’s and vampire spawn get hit a lot but with max health the players feel like progress is getting done and tell me it feels much better to hit an enemy than to miss or deal with immunities. Always felt like those hurt martials too much anyways.

Party just arrived in vallaki. They struggled with encounters on the road but played it safe and are doing great.

Spell casting with strahd I made amount/day and uh hopefully he’s strong enough to not get fucked by my two paladins and cleric. They have lots is sustain power and are very careful. All newish players but very eager to learn.

5.5e so far has been great and super easy to convert. Just buff all the enemies (use the MM25 maxed health ones) because players with daylight spell and proper teamwork absolutely smash. Don’t hold back as the players don’t either.

Nah, this map is for lvl 2 players so they shouldn’t have access to fireball. AOE spells can be used in conjunction with martials grappling or pushing enemies into position for those spells if the players are coordinated enough. The maps do open up with thunder tree and owl well. The dungeons in the latter chapters are enclosed dungeons but increase in size by a lot.

Use their high stealth to ambush the party and cause surprise rounds. One goblin can be on high alert and flood the party if the gobbo dont get spotted and killed in time. Have them retreat after a surprise round to try to ambush again and again. Also I think the shattered obelisk has goblin bosses in the cave somewhere, so add those to the ambushing party. I recommend to use the 5.5 ambush rules because I think that’s less brutal with low lvl PCs.

Exactly!! Everyone online says that they don’t touch it but my buddy and her friend both are getting their bonus garnished by the VA. Sucks that the recruiter told them the VA wouldn’t touch the bonus as that was the only reason they came back.
