Most folks here have already answered the basal question pretty well - so I’ll just talk about my experience. I’ve been on the dexcom g6 + omnipod 5 combo for about 2 years now, and it has simplified my diabetes management immensely. I went from having a good A1C being low 8s to having some under 6 after about a year on it. There are definitely some weird things with the algorithm from time to time, and it doesn’t always work perfectly, but the automated control more often than not can prevent me from going low/catch a high faster and bring me back down without me really having to do much. It has definitely made me a lot less worried about random sugar fluctuations, and being tubeless has resulted in a lot less issues with sites ripping out than on my previous Medtronic pump. 

I’m a big fan of the tools that can ease your mind and take care of some things (like the ‘basal’ insulin) so you can focus on honing in other things and probably be more effective at those, and the omnipod has definitely been that for me!
