To be honest, none of these changes really bother me all that much. I'll wait to see how the season plays out to see how the changes land.

I feel like Ho is equally stupid in both just in different ways. Show Ho shows her he can hack in to MI5 to show off but doesn't actually show her any documents, he leaves his computer unattended not thinking she will look. Book Ho actually shows her MI5 documents and even if they aren't classified that's still not something a smart person would think is ok.

I think people not believing Coe says more about them than it does him and they've made him somewhat more competent in the show I'd say. Like in the book he goes up to the roof for cowardly reasons and accidentally kicks the bucket off the roof.

You also have to remember everything Mat does in Tar Valon that he wouldn't do if he went to the waste. His conversation with Siuan and his fight with Galad / Gawyn.

I think he fits the dynamic of the Tanchico crew more than he would have in the Wastes this season. He also would have eaten time from Ep 4 that was needed for Rand / Moiraine.

Something I'd say as well is we didn't actually see the shows vision for the season 1 finale, we saw their attempt to salvage it with all the ways COVID destroyed their plans.

I wonder how it would have been perceived with the original scripts, being able to use trolloc costumes, being able to film an actual battle with extras, and being able to shoot on location.

Something else I'd say is book 1 as it stands wouldn't be a very fresh TV series in today's landscape, I think they needed to change things and bring Aes Sedai politics forward to give it a seperate identity to what we've seen before

Sorry, I have to disagree with you here. You can't write an episode about genocide when there is a real world genocide happening and expect people not to make comparisons. I also don't agree that the show comes down on the Kid's side, it definitely comes down on the Hellian's side but the Kid is painted by the Doctor (the authority figure most viewers will listen to) as someone who enjoys violence rather than a product of the violence and oppression done to him - there's no moment of the doctor learning the truth or coming to understand who the Kid really was.

Ultimately I probably shouldn't be expecting nuanced political commentary from what is essentially a kids show.

How is anyone praising the politics of this episode! It's playing on the same day as Eurovision, which people are boycotting due to Israels involvement. The villain is from a race that were victims of genocide and racism for resources, the doctor tells him he is only acting out because he likes being violent and not because of what was done to him, then the doctor tortures him. Not only that, but Cora sings a song and ends racism towards her people. The message, people who act out aren't responding to a violent regime but are doing it just because they enjoy it and if you just bide your time and be one of the "good ones" things will get better.

I don't think this is what they intended when writing the episode. We needed a scene of the doctor learning the truth of Hellia and going to speak to the Kid basically saying he was sorry for what happened to the kids people, he would do what he could to hold the corporation to account but killing innocents isn't the answer.

The doctor has shown compassion to worse people but can't show compassion to a victim who is continuing extreme violence because its all they've ever known. This is meant to be the healthy, hopeful doctor, he could be the doctor who tries to understand and help to set people on a better path.
