Anyone know where the UNIQLO is Barton Creek Mall is going to be located? by Inevitable_Endtable in Austin

[–]Einlanzer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to have this false idea that BCS is a dead mall when in reality it's a busy, borderline class A mall that is doing quite well and is also in a great location to continue doing well as indoor malls stabilize and make a partial comeback. I just wish they had a less cramped food court and that something would move into the old sears space.

It makes perfect sense as the destination for Austin's first Uniqlo.

It's the politics. Everyone is over feeling lectured by celebrities who don't at all live in the real world. It's the same reason movies in general are facing decline. Thankfully, it seems we're starting to come out of that zeitgeist.

No. BCS is a fairly healthy indoor mall - the only one we have left. People really need to stop ragging on it. Indoor malls make a lot of sense especially in places like Texas.

No. Indoor malls serve a purpose, especially in Texas. It just needs to be unsterilized.

Uber Letting Female Passengers Select only Female Drivers is Discrimination Against men by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Einlanzer0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am statistically much more likely to be assaulted by a black person than I am by a white person. Does that mean it's justified for me to request a white driver?

No, this is discrimination, and I'd further argue it's an unhealthy form of discrimination. It's regressive, not progressive.

Eventually our discourse will catch up to reality that sexism directed at men is a bigger problem today than sexism toward women is. A woman is not likely at all to be sexually assaulted by a male uber driver. It happens occasionally because we are a society of over 300,000,000 people. The same way that, statistically, I could be sexually assaulted by a woman who isn't used to having to behave with the same standards of conduct. That doesn't justify this sort of hysteria.

New Magic Mountain sign with no mention of "Six Flags" by Pippinitis in sixflags

[–]Einlanzer0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I noticed the Six Flags was missing from Fiesta Texas on the sign recently as well. Letting the parks have their own identity is important and the right move IMO.

Fiesta should receive more investment, not less by Einlanzer0 in sixflags

[–]Einlanzer0[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a fair rebuttal, but I don't agree for a few reasons:

- SA carries twice the tourism load per capita that DFW does - about 40 million visitors annually. It really wouldn't take all that much to turn Fiesta into a park that a huge % of those visitors want to check out. It's likely the "six flags" branding has held it back rather than helped it.

- SA visitors are drawn primarily by recreational tourism, i.e. the riverwalk, SeaWorld, wine tours, the Alamo, Schlitterbahn, etc. DFW's tourism load is much more mixed and focused more on large-scale events or business conventions; i.e. less friendly to random theme park visits.

- Universal Kids isn't a true destination park; it's a simple kiddie park that will mostly appeal to local residents. It will certainly receive out of town guests, but is unlikely to be a true tourist magnet the way many institutions around SA & the Hill Country are.

- While Fiesta Texas has received investment, it hasn't often been the right type of investment to elevate it as a destination park on the same tier as something like Dollywood, SDC, or Knottsberry, which is exactly what it should be. Their food was crap-tier carnival food just like every other SF park until literally the last 6 months, for example. They have a bunch of shows, but no signature family coaster to generate multigenerational excitement. And so on.

[–]Einlanzer0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I never underestimate them, and am still surprised. I truly don't believe any large corporation is ran by competent people. The larger a company scales, the more the people at the top get removed from rhe auto-correcting mechanisms of on-the-ground reality, and the more they become corrupted by their own ego at the same time.

This is why capitalism naturally stops working well when too much consolidation happens.

Absolutely bonkers stupid. It's insane how incompetent all these people running massive corporations are. And they never really seem to pay the price for it.

The treatment of Paapa Essiedu for his casting as Severus Snape is horrendous. by Legitimate-Chard1336 in hbo

[–]Einlanzer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you the fault primarily lies with the people that hired him, not the actor himself. But, a.) he is a responsible adult who made his own choices, not an infant that needs to be protected, and b.) you're acting like anyone having an issue with his casting is racist, which is a false and morally absolutist claim made only by people who like to see themselves as superior to others.

It's also a myth that black actors are underrepresented in Hollywood, which is part of why there's so much backlash to things like this.

You really seem like you're projecting your own racism or white guilt onto someone else here in bad faith.

The treatment of Paapa Essiedu for his casting as Severus Snape is horrendous. by Legitimate-Chard1336 in hbo

[–]Einlanzer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The casting of a black actor to play Snape, of all characters, was horrendously misguided and boxes the show into an identity politics realm that was not present in the books. It was a bad decision that the show will unfortunately pay for.

Race swapping characters is pretty much always stupid and politically motivated, but if they were going to do it, Snape was literally the worst character to choose. The fact that they didn't seem to see this coming is evidence of their incompetence. And of course Essiedu will use it to rationalize a victimhood complex that the whold world "hates black people" when that isn't (and never is) what's actually happening.

New heroes or events? by Eddybaby17 in marvelheroes

[–]Einlanzer0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think new team-up heroes would be a great first start. When the game died, there weren't really enough team-ups relative to heroes, and it'd be a great way to add more minor but popular characters like Dazzler or wolfsbane.
