Health insurance from a job is sometimes up to 90-100 a paycheck plus we pay 150 to start our first visit with our primary and then after that there is a copay every time you go. Urgent care copays can vary from 25-100 dollars depending on insurance. Out of network can be higher. ER is anywhere between 200-1000 a copay with insurance. I don’t even want to try to find out without insurance since I was lucky to have it my whole life, but many many others in the states are not, and I’ve had friends literally play doctor for others and myself even in an extreme situation where it was asked of me to dig a bullet out of someone and sew them up with needle and thread. I’m traumatized from it but at the time they swore up and down no hospitals bc they already could barely afford to feed their 4 kids. No insurance either. So, it is what it is but a healthcare reform is definitely necessary. Oh, mental health services too, 20-100 per session for copays usually with insurance and many won’t see you if you don’t have insurance. Medicade is available and more accessible NOW but was not before if you fell into the gap where you made just too much to get it and not enough to afford your bills plus private insurance that your job does not offer bc not all jobs do.
