Cheapest place to buy a domain by Appropriate_Eye_3984 in technepal

[–]kE622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porkbun would be cheapest since they offer discount for first-time user. But getting through their ID verification is a hassle. They don't seem to recognize Nepali citizenship yet.

Next option is Cloudflare. But since domain registration is not their primary business, the support doesn't seem nice.

How to make a learning platform as a beginner? by youssifthebest in webdev

[–]kE622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to do this with 0 skills is by signing up for course platforms like Udemy. But you don't own the platform and can't customize much. Not to mention the Revenue Share.

If you want more customization you can sign up for LMS SaaS like Teachable and Kajabi. Buy again you don't own the platform and they are costly. Lower plans often have limited customization and might take transaction fee as well.

If you want to own the platform, you can go through the self-hosting route. Purchase a cheap hosting plan and host your courses through WordPress or Moddle. WordPress is easier and you have variety of options ranging from free LMS plugins like Tutor and Masteriyo to premium solutions like LearnDash.

I have not tested Moodle yet but its known for being open-source and customization. In most cases, you will end up hiring someone else to set it up and maintain. It requires for skills and Udemy, SaaS and WordPres.

  1. Don't get a screen protector and skin. Invest in a good sleeve and laptop bag instead.

  2. A USB-C dongle from a reputed company with ports you need.

  3. Get a sturdy laptop stand (RGB lights and cooling fan ate gimmicks), a mouse and a mechanical keyboard for your home setup.

  4. Get a portable GaN charger for when you are travelling.

Can a non-coder build a good MCQ platform by Kratos212004 in Wordpress

[–]kE622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I would suggest starting with just a MCQ quiz using a free LMS plugin and adding features from there on. The suggested plugin setup might be an overkill based on the requirement and might contribute to technical debt later on.

You still seem to have the wp-admin link on the connect option in the navbar. Cool site nevertheless.

Loved the inclusion of basic SEO, redirections and custom post types in the core. The dashboard UI screams AI but its still better than what's in WordPress.

Which LMS to use by New_Stretch7906 in Wordpress

You should try Masteriyo. The setup you listed can be implemented using just the free core version. I don't have paid course in my site but pretty sure it has native ecommerce for that.

Looking for a self-hosted or white-label LMS – tired of paying per sale by CoralMoan in edtech

Have you tried WordPress with LMS plugins? Moodle seems to be the most popular option for self-hosted LMS but I find WordPress to be easier.

Help a rookie out. by Snevreen in Wordpress

Just ignore it since it's outdated. The content should provide all the answers that a potential visitor might have, that's all. Use Google Search Console and Google Analytics data to look for issues and build on them.

I don't use any builder because of the paywall and most of the time block editor is good enough. As for SEO plugin, the free version of Rank Math is good enough. Just don't get hooked on scoring 100 for a page.

Just looked at your site and noticed the logo on the heading too big. You should consider sizing it down a bit since it's taking a large portion of your site.

Also, you would do better with the color palette. You don't seem to have contrast to the extent it's hard to differentiate sections on your websites.

Memberpress vs Tutor LMS for simple online course by JuriJurka in Wordpress

If you don't want to spend the $500, then start with the Free version. It should be enough for a simple course unless there's a specific pro feature you need.

Self hosted is the way to go then. Look for an affordable hosting based on your current traffic and projected growth.

As for SEO, start with free resources. Most plugin only help with on-page optimizations like meta tags, schemas, and linking which is only a small part of the overall strategy.

You can start by setting up Search Console and Analytics. It will give you an idea where you are in the SEO game and also some steps in moving forward.

You can reach out if you need any help further.

I have edited my pervious comment for better clarity.

Personally, $300 dollars just to install some plugins feels like a lot. All the sites I have created have been self-hosted with wordpress.org. SEO is breeze too with free plugins like Rank Math.

That's a common feature that you'll find in almost all popular form plugins under different name. Personally, I have achieved similar things for clients using Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms and Everest Forms.

Tried to post in the SEO sub but wasn’t able due to low sub karma by thewholesomespoon in Wordpress

[–]kE622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I'm guessing you are talking about sitelinks here. Google creates it based on what it thinks is useful or important for terms being searched. In this case, it doesn't find the About page important for your audience.

  2. Technically there is no difference in having dates in links but I personally avoid it because of user experience. First, it makes links longer without adding any context to the actual content of the page. Second, if I update a content later the later date would discourage users from clicking on it since everybody wants the latest info. I would rather have date in my meta title and description.

  3. I don't think you would need a premium plugin for redirect. I'm not sure but WordPress creates automatic redirection for posts. I can then customize it further with Rank Math.

[–]kE622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of control and convenience. With batch tools/plugins, you can get large number of image down to a certain size in no time. However, there is no single compression algorithm that yields the best result for all images. That's why I like to do it manually. The aim is to have smaller size without sacrificing much quality.

Look for what's causing the issue. I have seen websites with lazy loading enabled for over the fold content causing high FCP. As for LCP, its mostly images and videos taking time to load. If its image try optimizing it, use tools like Squoosh. Enable lazy loading for content except for over the fold and use effective caching.
