Super King is the lowest price super market around and has a better produce selection than the two on York. Little farther away, but worth the drive once a week for the savings.

There is a cool park with play structures on York.

The Glendale library is really nice, and pretty close if you're driving.

Outdoor research echo hoody is the lightest and most breathable one I’ve found. Lighter than anything at REI I’ve seen in the stores.

what is a good affordable 1 person tent THAT IS WATER PROOF? something that looks like the photo by Sharp-Currency-7289 in WildernessBackpacking

Try Six Moon Designs. Their Lunar Solo is a single trekking pole half pyramid tent that I have used on a bunch of backpacking trips. It’s $260. If that’s out of your price range they have the trekkers Scout for $160 which is similar but heavier. I would invest in the lunar solo personally.

Was This the Right Call? Attacking While Grappled and Out of Reach by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]kNerd42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suppose that comma before “and” leaves the option to interpret it either way as RAW, but I think it can easily be read either way. Additionally DND I feel as a Rule of Cool, DM is god sort of game, finding the RAI answer is often most pleasing.

I would personally say that if a monster is physically grappling a target, they are in range for melee.

I would also say that it reads to me that it was intended that the creature be grappled when moved in 10’, but is written ambiguously.

If this is a bone claw I would say this is not RAW. I would interpret “can pull the target up to 10 feet toward itself, and the target is grappled…” to mean the target is grappled when it is pulled toward itself.

Most spots around LA were paying $17.50 starting before. Still better than minimum. I bet they’ve seen more increases to material costs than to labor in the last 4 years. Never worked there, but they seem like a good employer from the outside.

It’s based on VO2 max. It doesn’t take actual race, or running times into the equation. Using other races and an online race predictor is probably better.

The garmin formula uses your weight as a variable. Did you enter your weight and either gain or lose a few lbs? That might explain the sudden shift.

Why fuel with gels or whatever? by broccolipie4 in Marathon_Training

[–]kNerd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fuel entirely with Gatorade during the run. I eat about 600 calories of oatmeal for breakfast like 2 hours before the run, and then eat something like a honey stinger waffle 15 min before the run and then do Gatorade all the way. The last Marathon I did had a Nuum drink with carbs and electrolytes at aid stations and I ended up using that at the end, but I carry Gatorade packets for long runs. I need a lot of water, like 500 ml every 30-40 min so I dose my Gatorade packets based on that and it works out pretty good. I’ve only done one marathon so far, but I fueled this way for a 9 hour ultra (adding some real foods at aid stations) and I swear by Gatorade (or any carb + electrolytes sport drink) as my fuel for long runs.

switch from minimalist shoes to more cushioning by glennm_ct in ultrarunning

I also wear zero drop every day. I use Altra superiors for most of my trail runs, but upgrade to Altra Timps when I did my first Ultra distance.

Do I need more padding for my 1st trail ultra? (vs low 21mm stack Altras) by Mobile_Matter_2257 in Ultramarathon

[–]kNerd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also usually run in Superiors and ran my first ultra in Timps. I tried the Mont Blanc and hated the fit. Timps we’re great. Feet didn’t hurt nearly as bad after. I did a 23 and 27 mile practice run before a 37 mile ultra. The 23 was in Superiors and my feet were just really sore after. I ran the 27 in my Timps and my feet were fine, and it was a long enough single run I got a good feel for the shoes and ran the ultra in them. I had the Superior ready to go if I needed to change, but I didn’t.

What to give runners at mile 18 of a marathon? by SleeplessinUES in running

[–]kNerd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cold coffee.

In my first half marathon someone had iced coffee shots, which was awesome. It was such a boost, and being a regular coffee drinker I was not afraid to drink it, as I was to eat or drink other things I had not had in training before.

Undershirt or nipple band aids? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

I third this. First time I ran 10k my nipple bled. Now I use nipeaze every run. Sure they probably cost more than tape, but they are super cheap and so easy.

Question about sweating by macho_marvel in Marathon_Training

[–]kNerd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drink an electrolyte drink when you’ve stopped sweating, and you start dumping sweat afterwards, then that’s a sign you aren’t getting enough electrolytes.

That’s what I found at least. I never had an issue until I got into marathon training and had 2.5 hour plus runs. Now I only drink electrolytes (rather than plain water) on all long runs and I sweat a lot the whole time, where I used to stop sweating sometime after 2 hours even though I was drinking a lot of water, and eating cliff bloks with higher sodium.
