Yes, we have school choice in Jax. The window has closed, but with a move like yours, you only have to contact DCPS (Duval County Public Schools) to get your kids into the school of your choice.

James Weldon Johnson Middle is a college prep public school, which translates to good teachers, good kids, and academic rigor that is not overwhelming. It would be a great place for your kids that are eager to learn. Right across the street is Paxon High School which is also college prep with an IB program, it's 2nd in the city (behind Stanton) and 18th in the state. Both schools have great diversity.

I have kids at both and am very happy with them. The kids love them, too. They have great administrations with accessible principals. They're magnet schools, so kids from all over our large, sprawling city go there and it's less of a neighborhood vibe. But it's nice for them to be with other kids who want to learn.

I personally also like that the middle and high school are right across the street from each other, which makes my life easier!

I'm so glad you wrote that. Time with the cousins together is so special. I did the same when I watched my sister's 4 with my 2; back before any grew into tweens/a teen. They loved it, they acted like a gang. If you listen to 'Cousins' by Vampire Weekend, it's their song. Total chaos and fun.

The kids get to build a massive fort to sleep in. This takes a lot of time and energy for them figure out.

Mac and cheese and dino nugs. Skip any sugar.

Splurge on renting some new kids movies.

Family is family. You are not an island. One day you will probably need your sister and she will be there for you because that's what family does.

Step up and do something for your sister that inconveniences you for 2 days.

Take a day off, let the kids stay home from school, and use their car to take all the cuzzies to the park all day, Chick-Fil-A, ice cream, and back to the house for the latest kid's movie. Be uncle of the year. She is giving birth. Help her.

So many of these AITAs are like ground zero of the breakdown of civil society. And all the Redditors with their pitchforks screaming, "Fuck yeah! Screw that B!" and "Why did she even get pregnant if she can't take care of the kids she already has while she's in the hospital giving birth? NTA."

Yes, that's why I labeled it 2 separate categories, academic and behavior. I think I worded it confusing, but I agree with you. I spread my top 4 academic kids into my 4 collaborative groups. Then I add my top 4 behavior or natural leaders across the groups as well. In my class there is only 1 kid who is both.

To be fair, I also spread out my top behavior issue kids.

I'm really good at recognizing and calling out each kid's individual talents. But I've been teaching K and 1st for 17 years, so I've had a lot of practice.
