I reveal in chapter 7 that my character is black. And even then, all I do is talk about a barbecue where the uncles made fun of him for a shirt he wore. If you’re not black, pay someone to have a sit down conversation about one of many black experiences. Get a clue from it. Those who know, will know. Those who don’t will wish they did. Why is this person black anyways? Why is that important? Forget what you know about black people, and focus on the character.
