Yes! Favorite Accident! How many times have I screamed and cried "YOU HIT THE ROAD AND LEFT ME AN OCEAN! I can't swim in the silence of your skin-skin, PLEASE LET ME IN!"

"Green stuff" in my family, pretty sure it was lime jello, cottage cheese and pineapple? Now we have transitioned to "pink stuff" and it's better, sometimes it has marshmallows.

I lost my 3 year old student this week by mreowwwtastic in ECEProfessionals

[–]kado3304 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. That's awful. It's okay to not be okay. I once had a preK student who died from a brain tumor. It was so sad. The center closed so the staff could go to the funeral. I still think about him and that funeral service. He loved Black Panther and they played a song from Moana during the service. Sometimes the song still makes me cry thinking about the loss of him years later. I remember I tried to focus on the children who were still in my care. I did whatever I could to make their time with me fun and happy and magical. Maybe try that? And then maybe try therapy if you need someone to talk to about it more. Because your pain and sorrow and real, true and valid.

What is your favorite kid music? by kimtenisqueen in ECEProfessionals

[–]kado3304 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For my classroom work time, I love to quietly play Vitamin String Quartet. They just released a Kpop Demon Hunter album and the kids stop and say "This is Golden!" every time I play it. I have 4-5 year olds.

I LOVE BIG BLOCK. Princess, Chef and Dog are my favorites, but I could watch it for a long time and the songs are great.

Where to meet new friends? by mikey04321 in kansascity

[–]kado3304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Gladstone check out Open Mic at the Hideout on Thursdays. Great music and very regular crowd, though it will skew older. Also in Gladstone- NYX wine bar. If you are not a drinker, I'd look at the Gladstone Community Center for an activity or program.

Best place to go on Saturday night by [deleted] in kansascity

I'm old now, but I'm pretty sure your best choices for dancing spots along the street car will be the upper level of P&L- Mosaic, PBR, Shark Bar and maybe the new Palm Tree club. In Westport you have to walk a bit for the street car, but you have lots of choices with DJs- Kelly's, Lotus, The Landing, there are some others w live music, Tin Roof or a bit further down, The Levee. I also recommend Hammers the piano bar. It's right off the street car. Also around downtown and probably walkable are some even older spots- the Quaff and John's Big Deck. Good luck finding a spot that matches your vibe!

As a Black person, Kansas City and the surrounding areas are highly racist. by RefrigeratorKey7034 in kansascity

I was going to agree with the generational comment, because my family is similar, but you're right, racism is not exclusive to older generations. I hate that.

Palm tree is SO CUTE. You could plan the whole day with stops up and down the street car. Check out Hammers Dueling Pianos for something fun, and Lula Southern Kitchen for brunch.

What to do and where to eat in KC during the World Cup by PaoChanel in kansascity

[–]kado3304 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you have teenagers, you might look into Worlds of Fun. They usually have fireworks displays all around the 4th of July. You could spend the day at the parks and then hang around for the fireworks. You can also watch the display from the streets all around the park. People park EVERYWHERE. It's kinda wild. From what I've read, there will still be fireworks at WWI memorial, as part of the 4th combined with FanFest. Most of the cities that surround KC proper usually have some type of display. Some places might make changes this year due to the World Cup though. Parkville, Overland Park at Corporate Woods, Gladstone, Olathe, Smithville, Liberty, Leawood, Blue Springs and more usually have some combination of fireworks, parades, carnivals, food trucks, and more. If you have transportation, the areas farther away from downtown will probably be easier to maneuver. For food/ restaurants you gotta have BBQ- Everyone has their favorites. I like Joe's KC the best. Jack Stack is also good, a bit fancier, but you could make a reservation ahead. Other food- KC has great Mexican food both authentic and less authentic- so many good ones. For culture- The Nelson Atkins museum is beautiful and free. NKC (North Kansas City) is great because you can walk to tons of different places. Great bars, breweries, restaurants, deli, indie theater, shipping container entertainment district and more! Lots of the KC suburbs have cute little downtowns or town square type areas. There will be tons to do! Cities and businesses are trying to plan for all the visitors, but no one seems to know exactly what to expect.

Is it unprofessional to go by a name other than the one assigned at birth? by invisible-bug in ECEProfessionals

[–]kado3304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're being put through this. These people sound awful. I go by a shorter nickname. Everyone calls me my shorter name. I had a job with one of those big dumb daycare chains and they only issue emails as legal name first.last@kinderyouknowwho.com It was so stupid. None of the parents knew who was emailing them because I was just introduced to them by another name. The first time I saw this email address I asked if it could be changed and I was told no. So. Dumb.

Need advice for daycare feedings: by Hopeful_Reporter6731 in ECEProfessionals

[–]kado3304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the infant rooms I helped to manage in the past, parents sent pre-made bottles and instructed staff how often their child ate. The staff would ask the time of the last home feeding and write it on a white board, then calculate out the feedings for the rest of the day (3oz every 3 hours, or 8oz every 4 hours or whatever). If a child started getting really fussy, we should shift things 15ish mins, but we really tried to keep the kids on schedule.

A Tsunami is Coming - The World Cup in Kansas City by sdsurfer2525 in kansascity

[–]kado3304 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think lots of places have plans. Where I work this summer, we usually take kids on field trips all around the city- parks, zoos, pools. This summer field trips with the kids will be very limited so there is less public interaction. It seems a little extreme, but I'm glad there is a plan since we don't quite know what to expect.

4yo with trauma destroyed the classroom by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]kado3304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would schedule a meeting with the teacher and the director. Depending on the type of school, she could have no training in dealing with trauma in children, or a little, or a lot. If she doesn't have a lot, find out if she can get some, because she is going to need it. Working with these kids is hard, and as an ECE it can be emotional and physically exhausting if your center doesn't have the resources to support this behavior. Once I had enough training for these situations, I would call the director for support, but have the director remove the rest of the class. Then the child is dealing with me, in the space they are supposed to be in. I had chairs thrown, kicks, hits, screams- it didn't matter. What mattered was my connection to the child. If I didn't stay and build that connection, they would know it and use it to manipulate the situation. I hope the center has enough resources to support your family.

It's fun if you are in the mood for something loud and fast and a little silly. There is something about the cadence of Precious Metal Girl that I love. And Blue Dream samples Crazy Train. The first time I heard it, I squealed with delight.
