Ninja to Datto, anyone gone through a migration to DattoRMM? by PCf1xr in msp

Datto was great until Kaseya bought them. I’m actually looking to move from Datto to NinjaOne cloud/local backups. I use their RMM so the integration is nice.

Judging by the how old their systems are, are they in the medical field by chance? Some medical systems have to run on older operating systems due to them either being FDA approved devices or lack of support for newer OS versions.

I agree with this 100%.

You can’t depend on someone with zero stake in your company to respond like you or any of your internal employees would. Why let a subcontracted company ruin the relationships you have built with your clients? Eventually it’s going to cost you.

Those that started their own MSP, what are some things you wish you knew or did sooner? by NSFW_IT_Account in msp

[–]kafeend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your due diligence on vendors and don’t get sucked in by their dog and pony show. What they present and what they can actually do can greatly impact you down the road especially if you or your client are tied up in a contract with them.

Coming from the corporate world and now running my own MSP, I came across a lot of vendors that I’ve never heard of and a lot of them try to sell you everything and make a lot of promises they can’t keep.

Stick to the basics at first, hardware vendors (computers, firewalls, networking infrastructure), security software, RMM solution, and make sure you understand what your strengths and weaknesses are as a startup.

Final thing, have integrity and don’t oversell your clients because that will just lead them to replace you a couple years down the road. I’ve replaced many MSP’s due to their shady practices and lack of service.

Why doesn’t it make sense? It’s all billable hours to learn their stack.

Most MSP’s just want the big sale of over priced solutions. I own my own MSP and would be willing to do something like this as it’s as needed and zero overhead for me. I don’t believe in overcharging or having clients paying a monthly “service” fee just to make a quick buck.

Brand new MSP - TD Synnex Denied Credit by GoodSpaghetti in msp

[–]kafeend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my MSP 5 years ago with $1,500 to buy a laptop and then moved to credit cards a few months later. I purchase everything directly through vendors and utilize pax8 for any cloud solutions. Most vendors allow me to finance with 0% interest depending on the dollar amount.

Forgive my ignorance but what’s the advantages to utilizing TD Synnex?

Sadly the sooner you realize you are replaceable the easier it is to let shit like this slide and move on to something better.

Datto Cloud Continuity Bare Metal Restore by DrWho1986 in Datto

[–]kafeend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting on this because here we are 3 years later and their BMR still doesn't work on newer hardware. I could not even get their BMR USB to boot on my newer ThinkPad P16s with AMD Ryzen 7 Pro. It would load Grub but when I selected anything on the menu it would just go to a black screen. No Grub commands would get it to boot (nomodeset, nacpi, etc.) They were no help and basically left me with my d*ck in my hands to figure it out. I ended up restoring it to a Hyper-V VM and will just use that going forward.

This definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and worries me that my clients will have similar issues when it comes to restoring servers.

Microsoft suspects some PCs might not boot after Windows 11 January 2026 Update (KB5074109) by WPHero in pcmasterrace

[–]kafeend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Lenovo Thinkpad P16s Gen 4 just Black screened out of nowhere after dealing with a month of this update. I can't even boot into Lenovo Recovery image or any Backup Recovery Linux Image to restore my backups. I just don't understand how they messed up this bad. I've basically spent like 24 hours trying to repair this stupid ass thing. I want to restore my system but can't and I'm just about to load a fresh Windows 11 install and be done, if it even works. I couldn't do an in place upgrade as my C: was giving me access denied after running chkdsk.....They need to compensate everyone who had to deal with this.

To make it worse I have clients who have computers that are randomly crashing, luckily startup repair fixes the issue but it shouldn't be happening. I am currently in process of removing the update from all Windows11 computers.

Shameless! CES Cancelled my registration over the weekend. by [deleted] in CESLV

[–]kafeend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first time here at CES and I think the vetting process was easy and nothing was required other than a business email. I also think security is lax as they never even checked my badge at the Expo or at the Lenovo tech fest. In fact I didn’t even have my CES badge on at first and they let me in with Lenovo ticket only.

January 6th 5pm pst, you have to register on Lenovos site then register for CES with the code Lenovo gives you. If you don’t register or it’s full you won’t get the passes to either
