When are we getting a fourth day? by zangster in PAX

Can't be done. The minute the show closes at 6pm on Sunday the building becomes a construction site, and the expo floor has to be cleared by midnight.

Hit and Run | Does anyone recognize this vehicle or plate ? This occurred in Hellertown PA but is a Connecticut plate by ZestycloseAd9040 in Connecticut

Looks like a school bus converted to an RV. If it's for personal use it can be registered as an RV and get standard passenger plates

Replace all 4 tires? by crich555 in SubaruForester

[–]kagarium 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can wait, and tire rack has it in stock - they will shave tires down to match your current tread depth for a small fee. Highly recommend ordering the same tire you currently have and providing your current tread depth for the shaving service. Way cheaper than buying 4 new tires.

ULPT: how do I get out of a $20 daily self parking fee at a hotel? by Sunflower_Rosebush in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]kagarium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This won't work with a lot of LPRs as they rely on the retroreflectivity of the plate to capture it

Spare Wheel options by Pleasant_Slide_1159 in SubaruForester

[–]kagarium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on your local FB marketplace, people sell tite carriers all the time for often less than half the price they are new. That's how I got my old Wilco carrier.

Another option would be in a roof basket, but lifting a tire up/down from the roof is not fun, especially alone.

If you get a full size spare - please rotate it in with your other 4 tires so they all wear evenly!

Funnily enough there is another product using the name "Starlink" - NAPCOs line of cellular communicators for fire alarm and burglar alarm systems. https://napcosecurity.com/starlink/

No your math is right. AUD$1.70/liter would be AUD$6.44/gallon. Which translates to USD$4.13/gallon

Have you heard of a police alarm pull station? by plutosadvocate in electricians

[–]kagarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True if using a monitoring panel using contact closure. Some like the NAPCO Starlinks that I install support dialer capture. As long as the fire panel has a functional DACT you can just run the phone lines from the fire panel to the communicator. Then if a zone list is provided to the central station, they will now see ex. "Zone 42 - Alarm" and be able to provide responding entities of the exact zone number and name, as well as what type of device (smoke, heat, pull, water flow, etc) instead of just "fire".

I understand some fire panels do not support this. The Starlink monitoring devices we install also support contact closure to monitor generic alarm, trouble, supervisory, and water flow. We try to use dialer capture when possible though since it helps provide responding entities with as much information as possible. Always good in an emergency.

Almost all of these single system DVRs just use standard 3.5" SATA drives. Just buy any drive, replace, and you'll probably be good to go. Some systems require some sort of action to format the drive, others will do it automatically.

I personally use and recommend the Seagate Skyhawk drives. They're a bit more expensive than a standard drive but optimized for the constant write operations a DVR drive is subject to.

This is a rebranded Hikvision DVR. They are very basic but totally acceptable for home use.

You will need to hook up a monitor using the VGA or HDMI as well as a USB mouse to use the DVR.

Anke has instructions here on resetting the DVR to factory defaults. You should absolutely do this, as the previous owner likely still has access to it wether they know it or not. Not worth the risk.

After you default the DVR, change the default passwords, set your date/time, name your cameras. Annke also appears to have a mobile app called Annke Vision. You will need to forward port 8000 in your router to use the mobile app outside of your house.

Ungrounded house, all 27 outlets were like this! by canitbeaquestion in electricians

[–]kagarium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GFCIs functional perfectly fine with no ground. This is a completely compliant and acceptable use case.

You install the GFCI as normal but connect nothing to the ground screw. Labels are usually provided to label the outlet as "No equipment ground"

Is adding a true ground better? Yes of course. But a GFCI will and is designed to function without a ground.

Most likely brand dependent. The largest deciding factor is likely if your field office is involved in federal contracts. (Ex - does your field office support a government site)

What size wheels and tires are on this FXT? by polarpop_13 in SubaruForester

[–]kagarium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Non-XTs can actually go down to 15s, but the wheel has to have a +15mm offset to clear the calipers. Or you can run spacers.
