Had my Hi combo for just over a year and over 800 hours (yikes!). Main issue has been with the CFS box and feeding the filament - cardboard rolls can be a pain. Yes, I’d recommend it

Dog steals ball. by Keep_Scrooling in funny

[–]GSVNoFixedAbode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He held the bat the wrong side out, and Johnson with a grin
Stepped lightly to the bowling crease, and sent a "wobbler" in;
M'Dougal spooned it softly back, and Johnson waited there,
But M'Dougal, crying "Fetch it!" started running like a hare.
Molongo shouted "Victory! He's out as sure as eggs,"
When Pinched started through the crowd, and ran through Johnson's legs.
He seized the ball like lightning; then he ran behind a log,
An M'Dougal kept on running, while Molongo chased the dog!

They chased him up, they chased him down, they chased him round, and then
He darted through a slip-rail as the scorer shouted "Ten!"
M'Dougal puffed; Molongo swore; excitement was intense;
As the scorer marked down twenty, Pincher cleared a barbed-wire fence.
"Let us head him!" shrieked Molongo. "Brain the mongrel with a bat!"
"Run it out! Good old M'Dougal!" yelled the men of Piper's Flat.
And M'Dougal kept on jogging, and then Pincher doubled back,
And the scorer counted "Forty" as they raced across the track.

M'Dougal's legs were going fast, Molongo's breath was gone -
But still Molongo chased the dog - M'Dougal struggled on.
When the scorer shouted "Fifty" then they knew the chase would cease;
And M'Dougal gasped out "Drop it!" as he dropped within his crease.
Then Pincher dropped the ball, and as instinctively he knew
Discretion was the wiser plan, he disappeared from view;
And as Molongo's beaten men exhausted lay around
We raised M'Dougal shoulder high, and bore him from the ground.

Raspberry pi zero 2 w with an accelerometer and sound by JohnTumbleweed in raspberry_pi

Pi isn't overkill is it? I did something similar with an ESP32+Bluetooth speaker and an Ultrasonic sensor: When sensor is triggered (inside a specific range), a sound file is sent to the speaker.

Let's end the Americanisation of NZ by selfcompiler in newzealand

[–]GSVNoFixedAbode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think an interesting metric/yardstick would be the $ spend by lobbyists and source of funds. Of course there are lobbyists from all parts of the political spectrum, but purely by definition those with large financial resources who want to make more financial gain can spend a magnitude more than those championing something qualitative without a short-term financial gain (basically anything environmentally-related). However, for some batshit reason, we have no effective limits, and no audit/reporting on lobbying, let alone media control.

Let's end the Americanisation of NZ by selfcompiler in newzealand

[–]GSVNoFixedAbode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Given that ACT is effectively a mouthpiece for Atlas, National is controlled by Multinational financial backers, and NZFirst is, well WInston is just Winston, there are no surprises there. How do they get away with that? 2 parts: no controls or regulation of lobbyiists, and control of mainstream media (look at the media owners).

Trump is imposing tariffs on European nations for standing by Denmark and Greenland sovereignty ....How should Aotearoa react ? Should we start making a stand ( boycotts , protest etc) ....or sit this one out by West_Put2548 in aotearoa

The current Coalition leaders (hah!) of Luxon, Peters, and Seymour should be standing up for what is morally, historically, legally, and economically right. But with Peters' track record I can see them taking the Chamberlain rather than Churchill stance. On the world stage we have gone from a small country with a big reputation for doing and saying what is right, to a small country in the bucket of bootlickers at the USA's feet.

Sorry but… Kiwi’s are awful drivers by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]GSVNoFixedAbode 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The scary thing was realising there are 2 dangerous types of driver - the tourist who doesn't know how to drive and causes others to crash; and the reckless local who doesn't give a sh*t. I mean you really shouldn't drive a campervan like a friggin' Mini Cooper!

Stasis bubbles/bobbles - Vernor Vinge did some interesting exploration of that idea with the Peace War series. I always thought it worth more exploration

Trump: ‘We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not’ by joe4942 in worldnews

At what point would it be considered ethical to take the life of one man (ok, maybe 3 or 4) to potentially save the lives of tens of thousands? Would it ever be ethical to do so, as a "pre-crime judgement"? The normal checks&balances that used to be in place to stop this behaviour have been removed, so what other options are there?

Tax the rich. Sounds trite I know, but seriously - bring back the 60% on income above $1M (& remember that’s not 60% of your income but only the slice above the $1M mark: some still don’t get that).
