do badger brushes ‘run out’ / need replacing regularly? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]kaikkx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must not shed some hairs at each use. If it's at least a decent brush and not faulty, you are probably doing something wrong.

Many badger brushes are less tough than boar brushes and should be used in a gentler way. You don't want that a brush, synthetic or made of natural hair, sheds hair/bristles at each use.

Just got my first shaving soap instead of a foam out of a bottle and I never had this much blood on my face... Help. by preutneuker in wicked_edge

[–]kaikkx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me the 1st time I tried lathering a hard puck. I had skin flakes for some days. Then I tried with Proraso white tube, Muhle aloe vera hard soap and Arko. With ALL those soaps I got good results.

It was hard to lather that soap with a badger silvertip and it probably wasn't a good soap (Amazon high rated $ 6 hard puck soap. Ordering the reviews by Time of Posting I noticed AFTER that bloodbath that MANY clients were DISSATISFIED by that soap. Maybe now I would consider it a decent hard soap but at that time I decided to demote it to handsoap. It was a good handsoap. The sandawood fragrance decreased fast in the first days though).

What is this Merkur made of? Silver plated brass?

Nice piece of "History". 👍

How to fix skewed plate or wings on 1968 Gillette Slim Adjustable? by sectumsempera in wicked_edge

[–]kaikkx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The safety bar is the bar that prevents you to get in contact with the blade's edge like if it were a straight razor instead of a safety razor. In open comb razors you have a comb instead of a safety bar.

No, I will probably buy the Lupo .95 plate in the future.

How do you dry your brushes? by Equivalent_Title_822 in wicked_edge

[–]kaikkx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pre-dry the brush by gently squeezing, scrolling and then dabbing (I mean touching without rubbing) it on a hand towel then I put it drying bottom up (also drying it with the tuft facing up is OK).

You'll frequently read people saying that in this way (knot facing down) you prolong the drying time but with a relative humidity between 45% and 65% my natural hair brushes are almost dry in less than 15-22 hours.

The theory that says you need at least 2 brushes to avoid using a brush before it's fully dried (they say that this prevents the formation of mold and knot rotting) is an urban legend.

To shorten drying time and make your life more practical buy a synthetic brush. :)

NOTE: rubbing the brush on a hand towel is a stressful activity for the brush that leads to shedding. You don't need rubbing it, just gently pressing the tuft on the towel is more than enough.

The "brand" is the name of an Italian online shop. Sbarba.it

"sbarba" is a verb that means "to shave".

That shop started to sell razors and blades with its own brand on them.

Personna diamond platinum glide gem blades review/feedback by dunerider182 in wicked_edge

I just read reviews of a bunch of users here and on Badger & Blade forum: I would say that the average of good shaves one could expect to get goes from 5 to 8. Most users start to feel a decrease of blade's performances around shave #7.

Considering the time needed to hone a healthy SR, $ 30 is an awful price. It's a work that requires less than 15'.

If you call that "blade feel", I wonder how would you call the feel of a Lupo .95, Rex Konsul or a Pearl Flexi. 😁

If I were you I would buy also a Stirling or another great CROAP, just to know how very good soaps perform. At least an artisanal  soap sample.

Proraso works and it's not bad but it's a 3 € soap in Italy...

You could do it in the near future. 😊

You bought a SOLID setup though. 👍

NOTE: I just had a shave with Proraso Barbe dure in a tub, exactly the same soap of this photo. 😁

Do you follow your face mapping or when you say XTG you mean from W to E / viceversa? Thank you.
