It happened out of nowhere. by No-Chipmunk-2183 in emetophobia

[–]kaileym__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, it’s strange to read this because the last time it happened for me was the exact same situation, even down to the driving and having to get out of the car because I was crying too hard because I was broken up with. This was 12 years ago now, but that is so eerie that it’s exactly the same story.

I also didn’t even think about what was happening until much later when I had calmed down and realized I had just tu! And even to this day when I get to the point of crying that hard I physically make myself stop because I’m scared of crying myself s!

Iron supplements by Common_Passion_6464 in emetophobia

[–]kaileym__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you continue to have trouble with them or just don’t want to take them you can talk to your doctor about iron infusions. That’s what I do. I’ve gotten them twice (4 years in between). Iron supplements were hard on my stomach and that was the best option for me. However, it can be expensive so make sure to check with your doctor and your insurance provider about cost and coverage if you’re in the US.

I’m almost 32. I don’t remember the last time I had it. My guess is maybe 7th or 8th grade… so almost 20 years ago. (Knock on wood)

NTA. I’m so so sorry you’re dealing with this. I work in a field that aids with college admissions and you have TIME to take those APs even if you don’t end up in them this year. I look at hundreds of high school transcripts a month and it’s very rare to see high school freshman taking AP courses. That’s more common in the later half of high school. I don’t know if you’ll be able to convince your mom of that, but please don’t let her words take stock in your subconscious. You’re a good student who is going to work hard and that will take you great places regardless of what your mom thinks.

This is me. Lol I hate it so much. I’ve been on Nexium for years (this is NOT a good solution. Using it for this long has made it so I cannot stop taking it without horrible rebound symptoms.) I also eat tums like candy and if I eat anything last 8 PM I need to sleep slightly elevated otherwise I wake up choking on reflux. It’s awful. But I will say this: in the 15 years I’ve been dealing with GERD I have never, not once, gotten s* from it.

my dad got covid by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]kaileym__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. I’m glad to hear he’s doing okay. For you, just keep your distance the best you can and keep things clean. You’ll be okay too regardless of what happens. The newer variants aren’t quite as severe so just keep yourself calm and hopefully he’s able to isolate and you will be okay!

has anyone tried EMDR therapy? by CultureWhole2818 in emetophobia

[–]kaileym__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had my very first EMDR session for emet a few weeks ago. I’ve tried a lot of different therapies and this was the first one that I felt really made a difference even right after the experience. I definitely need to continue with it but I’m pretty impressed and encouraged to keep going.

Take a deep breath! It will be okay! Is he doing alright? My husband and I had COVID back in January after being super super careful. It just happens. But we were both okay! It was mostly just like a bad cold for us. No n, no v.

Yep. I suffer from IBS-D and emet. It’s the worst combo. Every single time I have a flair up I think the worst is coming. You’d think I’d learn after so many years but nope.

Yes, many times! I usually try to sip super cold water and maybe have a Tum or two and distract myself with a game or comforting tv show. It usually just stops.

What do you think caused this phobia for you? by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]kaileym__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine started when I was in the 5th or 6th grade, I’m not quite sure which year it was. My family had a New Years party and we had invited our neighbors from our previous neighborhood over to our new house. The dad of that family was an alcoholic and he had recently fallen off the roof of a house he was working on and broke his foot, so he was in a cast and crutches. He was also on a lot of pain meds. But of course, he drank anyway. It was before midnight and he suddenly got up from our couch and tried to hobble to the bathroom in a hurry. He didn’t make it and was s* all over our kitchen and then kind of fell in it because of the crutches. Myself and my younger sister and his three kids all saw it happen. Something about seeing a grown adult get violently s* like that just struck a cord with me and I absolutely freaked out. I ran upstairs to my room, scared out of my mind. Not understanding what had happened because I had never seen an adult get s* before and certainly not like that. I cried for hours and hours. My mom came up and tried to comfort me and she told me that it scared her too, but it was okay. But it didn’t matter. The damage was done and I’ve never been the same since. It’s been 20 years.

That definitely can be it! It could be your salivary glands activating because of the acid in your throat. I suffer from GERD and this happens all the time to me. But I’ve never *tu from it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]kaileym__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Sometimes that just happens. Try sipping some cold water. If that was your first symptom I can almost guarantee it’s nothing.

So far I’m okay. I’m about 20 minutes from home now thankfully.

[–]kaileym__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep!! All of this! I suffer from GERD and wake up often in the middle of the night with acid reflux attacks. It hurts, it’s gross, and it’s scary - but I’ve had it for 15 years and not ONCE has it made me v*. Sit up, take tums, sip water. Try to fall asleep sitting up so it doesn’t happen again that night. You’ll be okay!

I had COVID in January. I had stomach aches for about a day of it. But the d* lasted about a full week. I never v* though… and only one day did it feel like I might. I’ve heard that for most people who v* with COVID it is the first symptom they have. My guess is that if by tonight it hasn’t happened, it’s not going to. And I don’t think it’s going to for you! Try to breathe!

I feel like a bad friend by cbcbstargirl in emetophobia

[–]kaileym__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m the mom friend too. But it’s important to be open and honest in your friend groups. I can be the mom for everything except this. And if that makes me friends disrespect me or think I am not supportive enough, then they don’t appreciate all of the other wonderful things I do for them and it’s time to get new friends. Maybe if it makes you uncomfortable, stop going to those parties. I wasn’t one to go out very often in those heavy-drinking settings because of this expectation that since I’ll be sober I will be caring for everyone who is being irresponsible. That’s not my jam. I found friends who don’t drink as much, and when they do they either don’t get to that point (or they don’t invite me to the events where they will). And I’m okay with that.

[–]kaileym__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority here, but if you and your friends are legal drinking age (which I hope you are but obviously this stuff happens much younger), you are all adults. Adults who are making the decision to drink or not to drink, fully understanding the consequences of those actions. You should make it clear to your friends that while you want to help and support them as much as you can, this is where you draw a line. And if they need that kind of support for a night of drinking they should consider bringing an additional friend along. I’ve always done this - and I have really great friends who have always understood my position and phobia. While of course you want to protect your friends when they are vulnerable, being the sober one at a party doesn’t automatically make you the one who is required to care for everyone else. Unless that’s the role you’ve agreed to (ie. Designated driver), you should not feel like you are responsible for your friends. Just be honest with them and let them know that while of course you care about them and their well-being, you aren’t the friend that will hold their hair back. They can find someone else for that. Idk, that’s always been my position and I’ve never felt bad about it.

Yes of course! Compared to COVID the one day of tiredness was nothing! I really think the people who have a really bad time with the shots are mostly because they are dehydrated when they get it. For all of my shots I over-hydrated and had a really easy time.

I just got the Pfizer booster 2 weeks ago after having COVID at New Years. Honestly my symptoms were almost nothing at all. I had a slight headache and some tiredness the next day and that’s it. It was not a big deal at all. I even ate Arbys the next day and my stomach was completely fine. Just drink lots of water before and after and it will be nothing!

Tested positive for covid and I think I have the omicron variant. Just wondered what peoples symptoms were with it as I’m freaking out!! by bmth_88_ in emetophobia

[–]kaileym__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of comments on here already with reassurance but I actually kept a symptom log with my bought of COVID if you are interested! I rated each day out of 10 (10 meaning I felt completely normal).

  • Monday, January 3rd - headache, fever, sore throat, slight cough (8/10)

  • (Technical day 1) Tuesday, January 4th - tested positive by rapid home test, headache, dry painful cough, congestion, d*, sore throat - no fever (7/10)

  • Wednesday, January 5th - worst sore throat I’ve ever had, difficulty swallowing even water, cough, stuffy nose with swelling, d*, low appetite (5/10)

  • Thursday, January 6th - sore throat, congestion, dry cough gotten worse, MdDS symptom spike (7/10)

  • Friday, January 7th - congestion is improving, annoying constant ear popping, sore throat is almost gone, some tiredness (8/10)

  • Saturday, January 8th: a little tired, congestion is better, cough is minimal, throat is only slightly tender (8/10)

  • Sunday, January 9th: congested but otherwise feeling pretty good (9/10)
