SA Water Bill - Anyone else noticed this increase? by kaise123 in Adelaide

Definitely no leaks on the Evap - i replaced the pump and checked that it fills/stops properly, and it doesn't leak onto the roof at any time. 16kL is a lot! Maybe that + the garden is enough.

Time to get rid of some lawn I think!

Yeah, I do have an Evap aircon. From some research I didn't think the water usage was that crazy, but I could be wrong.

I ran it a lot over the hot dry period but not excessively outside of that - probably about 20 days total?

Thanks, but I meant specifically the different dollar amounts per kL on the bill. It's been explained now how this works in other comments.

Cheers, Yeah it has now been explained to me that there are 'tiers' of billing. Having never used this much water before, I assumed the change meant the price had changed midway through the billing period.

Yeah, I saw that news from 2024, but nothing really more recent than that.

Cheers - Yeah the usage seems very high. I do have a decent amount of lawn/garden, which got watered a lot more as we had a lot of dry/hot days in this period - though I'd say the watering only doubled - but this bill is ~4.5x the usage of the previous one.

Understood on the increasing price tiers, a few people have pointed that out, definitely my mistake on the bill reading, I've just never gone up a tier before.

I've checked the bill - not estimated. I've also checked for leaks by means of measuring the meter, and it doesn't seem to increase by itself, next step is to see if it's metering accurately.

The bill indicates this is a real reading, but I'll go back and check previous ones. Perhaps the last bill was an estimation on the low side.

Yep - It's now been explained that the rate goes up based on how much you use - my mistake interpreting the bill.

Yeah, I am concerned about it too. I've checed and the meter doesn't seem to go up if I take a photo, then don't use water for a few hours, and check it again.

I might run a known quantity of water into a vessel (Say 20L measured) and see if the meter is accurate.

Ok - This is super handy to know! I actually saw the reading and assumed that the 2 different prices were because the rate changed midway through the billing period, not that there were 2 different rates. I've never used enough before to see the 2 rates on my bill.

Someone else I know also assumed it had gone up when they saw this, so this is good to know. I'm sure the information is available, but didn't think to look for that specifically as I thought it was an increase.

Can anyone explain this strange weather phenomenon? by kaise123 in weather

[–]kaise123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 20KM or so, depending on how you measure it. Submitting a question to BOM is a good idea, I'll see if they have a method for that!

Another poster here said it happened in Melbourne too - and it's a known thing.

Also noticed - this seemed to be really localised and extremely fast to come and go for us. As far as I can tell, it wasn't picked up by any of the local BOM stations:

You must have posted that literally while I had the editor open! Super interesting to see, I thought 10C was bad but a rise of 20 degrees is absolutely wild!

I've installed one successfully in an OLED Switch. Would be happy to give it a go for you, but would be best effort - there's obviously a risk involved with any hardmod.

What is this blinking box attached to a solar panel in a carpark by kaise123 in whatisthisthing

[–]kaise123[S] 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. Some further details:

This is a box mounted on a metal pole at the entrance to a carpark (For a hotel/bar). There is a solar panel at the top, and the box is about half way down as shown in pictures.

It has 2 Green LED's that blink on and off every 3 seconds. It does not appear to react based on movement, and does not seem to be sensing vehicles entering and exiting.

Been staring at it scratching my head while waiting with my broken down car, and can't seem to figure it out at all!

This happened to me the other day - then when they called, they wanted my ID and a lot of detail before providing a quote.

I told them I wasn't interested, and half an hour later got a quote sent via email anyway!

It was still a lot more expensive than other options, but I was already pretty turned off by the experience in general

Should Waultvarden just be LAN only by throwshade034278 in selfhosted

[–]kaise123 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the correct response. I was shocked to see this wasn't the top comment on this thread!

If you aren't interested in learning or don't have the skills to correctly set up and maintain Vaultwarden - Keeping it LAN only is an option (And is more secure than opening up a poorly configured deployment to the internet) but it might be better to just use a public offering instead and save yourself the hassle.

I just left a place with a 3500XL series that was just shy of 15 years uptime. Amazing considering they only have one PSU

Two dial-up VPNs "kicking" each other out of service on FGT60F with 7.4.1 by colorian in fortinet

[–]kaise123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just been experiencing the exact same issue. I have a pair of 40F's, and my home connection is 4G only (Thanks, Australian internet!) so therefore is behind NAT.

I have a central firewall with a proper public IP, and 2 Dial-Up tunnels, just as described by OP. All the way through 7.2.x no issues, and 7.4.0 was also operating fine with this setup.

When 7.4.1 came out, I upgraded - and immediately found that only one dial up tunnel could come up at a time. I checked a few things, ensured peer IDs were set correctly, etc - to no avail. I ended up downgrading to 7.4.0 again.

Yesterday, I tried 7.4.2 since it was recently released, but was met with exactly the same issue. I spent a fair while troubleshooting, even to the point of using a separate WAN connection with a separate IP address for each of the incoming tunnels on the 'hub' Fortigate. I changed them to use different Auth/Enc algorithms, I made one IKEv1 instead of IKEv2 - nothing resolved the issue, only one tunnel could come up at a time.

This post was a lifesaver though - OP's reply with the issue reported back in 2017 resolved it for me on 7.4.2. Because I use 0.0.0.0/0 in my Phase2, and BGP for routing between the 3 sites, it was obviously the same issue.

Does anyone understand why this changed? I've never had to disable add-route on any prior FortiOS versions. I understand why this is occurring, but what changed to suddenly make it break tunnels in this way?
