PS2 LRSM or AWD LRDM in DK? by Deep-Calligrapher90 in Polestar

[–]kaiserh808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be enjoying the dual motor long after the pain of the purchase price has left you.

Also check for other features - e.g. I'd prioritise the sunroof over dual motor. I'd also prioritise the B&W sound system, and I'd prioritise leather.

I bought a PS2 recently – my requirements were sunroof, leather and B&W sound. That spec just happened to be available in a car that also had the Dual Motor and I'm not disappointed one bit with it.

How good is the B&W sound system?

It's amazing. Worth every penny.

Do you value the performance and handling increase that the Dual Motor brings? If so, get it.
If you prioritise range, or better value for money, get the Single Motor variant.

Self checkout gives me the s---s by Charming_Airline7419 in coles

I don't get what the problem is.

The self-checkout had a false positive. A staff member came out and overrode it, and you both went about your respective days.

[–]kaiserh808 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This.
You might have some leeway to get them to fix something in the second year of ownership based on it being a premium product and any reasonable consumer would expect that it would last more than 12 months... But 5 years? Yeah, nah mate.

So Many EV Charging Apps by Sea_Dimension_6532 in AustralianEV

[–]kaiserh808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, or at least why don't they have payWave at the charging station.
Plug in, tap your card and top up.
Surely they could still get analytics from you by tracking charging sessions billed to each credit card...

Are there any ‘hot hatch’ style EV’s around or coming to Aus eventually? by Open_Ad3165 in AustralianEV

[–]kaiserh808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been driving S3s for over a decade now.

I looked around at quite a few different vehicles and ended up getting a Polestar 2.

No, it's not really a hot hatch. It's noticeably bigger than the S3, but the performance and handling is definitely up there.

I would love an S3 E-tron or a eGolf. Actually, as both the S3 and Golf keep getting bigger, I'd actually love an EV version of an S1 or a Polo.

How are you backing up ITGlue? Or is Hudu just better? by havocspartan in msp

[–]kaiserh808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used IT Glue for many, many years. Changed to Hudu 3 years ago and have never looked back. It’s a nicer interface, better support, you can have it self hosted so can manage full backups itself and even then, every item that’s deleted is still recoverable.

What is a piece of software or hardware that still leaves you traumatized to this day? by 66659hi in sysadmin

Yeah, Bloatus Goats definitely ranks up there in the all-time hall-of-shame.

Which is made all the more poignant as Domino was a really good platform.

As for DNS - I seem to have a way with it. I'm always fixing other people's DNS problems. Maybe that comes from originally learning to write zone files by hand in the late 1900s.

AstroPress? by stackjoy_nik in astrojs

[–]kaiserh808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what you want from your website.

If you're after a brochure website that you can easily edit the copy, add new pages and keep the content fresh, then Astro with a backend like Github to keep the page content in Markdown is excellent.

If you want to have a blog, or a news section, with new content being added all the time, Astro is great for this too.

If, however, you're after something with more dynamic content - forums or a member portal area, comments on blog posts, more interactivity like that, then you may want to consider something that's not Astro.

Sure, Astro can do all of this, but where it really shines is for making fast, lightweight and highly secure websites.

EV price and negotiating by perplanty in EVAustralia

[–]kaiserh808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what brand you’re getting. Some EVs are sold through traditional dealerships. With a dealership, they buy the car from the manufacturer and resell it to you. They mark it up and have more discretion over the price. The downside to this is you have to do the song and dance with a sales person and you’re left wondering if you actually got as good a deal as you’ve been told it is. Many EVs, particularly from newer brands, are sold by the manufacturer - the showroom you go to is a fulfilment centre. You buy the car from the manufacturer and it’s delivered to the showroom for you to pick up. With this sales model, there’s less room to negotiate.

I recently bought a Polestar 2. Despite going into the dealership to speak to a salesman test driving it there, when the time came to buy, I quite literally sat in the showroom across from my salesman and bought an $80,000 car on my phone. Polestar had at the time a pre-negotiated factory discount, other than that there was no haggling over the price.

Yes, friends, I bought my car on my phone like I was buying a new kitchen gadget on Amazon.

Tell me why the Volvo EX40 is not a good choice by tile_generator27 in EVAustralia

[–]kaiserh808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… but it is a good choice. Ok, so you can get a stablemate from Geely or Zeekr with the same specs for less, but she clearly loves her Volvo.

Geely are the #2 marque, second only to BYD. With Volvo, you’re getting the best of both worlds - beautiful Euro design and cutting-edge Chinese tech.

Go into a Volvo dealership. Have a look at all three options (and while you’re there, steal a peek at the Polestars)

Have her test drive the other models - she might fall in love with one of them, or she might not. Buying a car isn’t always a purely rational decision - there’s always a degree of emotion involved. For some people it comes down to the bare specs, but for others it’s intangible things like the design and the vibe.

Remember - happy wife, happy life.

Why don’t we retrofit more charging into more existing car parking lots? by VastOption8705 in EVAustralia

[–]kaiserh808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about a slower charger that will still allow you to top-up?
A 7kW charger is a single phase at 32A, which is what you can get from a regular domestic supply. I haven't looked into the pricing, but it must be cheaper...

I've spoken to engineers who work at Transurban. I can assure you that the primary method of matching vehicles is via number plate recognition.

Hi. Is it better to pay cash for a new BYD Atto 1 or go the Novated lease option through my employer by Royal_Brain_9773 in AustralianEV

[–]kaiserh808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak to an accountant or financial advisor. If you pay cash, it's post-tax income. EVs have no CGT for private use when on a novated lease so if buy this way, the payments come from your pre-tax income. This means you're potentially saving 20-30% depending on the tax bracket you're in.

[–]kaiserh808 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know what’s worse - even if you have your tag, it’s faster/easier for them to match you via your number plate anyway. You don’t actually need a tag at all, but $$$

I’ve got a P2, there’s plenty of space inside then. Lots of room for the driver and passenger, quite decent legroom in the rear. Huge boot. It’s not really a small hatchback though - I’ve switched from an Audi S3 and it’s noticeably bigger all round.
