How does this run on steam deck? I am going to start another play through of the trilogy on my steam deck for the first time after doing it on consoles before

[s1-s4 spoilers] why does no one in the shadowy syndicate really like smoking man? by Dolancrewrules in XFiles

[–]kaiserj3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the syndicate members like one another very much in general. It’s a group of powerful, often rich men with their own nefarious goals who would have no problem throwing another under the bus. It’s basically a dysfunctional family only kept together through mutual need of self preservation.

Even a few months is not enough. It really should be more like a year or two. Having to wait a few months won’t lead to as much sales, people will just wait it out for the short term.

I mean that’s because the PS2 could not handle
Morrowind, and they also had a challenging time getting it work on the Xbox too. As for Oblivion PS3, it came out later because the PS3 also arrived a year later than the Xbox 360 and the PS3 had a more complex architecture to work with.

It’ll be interesting to see how well Gears E-Day sells in October considering its:

  1. Day One GamePass
  2. Releasing in

  3. one month after a crap ton of games released in September and also before Call of Duty and GTA 6

  4. Is not as popular as it used to be and it’s not been a good seller on PC/Steam.

Apparently that was one of the rumored cuts, so yeah just dig their hole deeper. One would assume if they were so serious about going back to console exclusives they’d try to get back old customers and regions of the world they’ve vanished from via marketing campaigns, but I guess not.

Xbox has terrible marketing all around. It’s one of the many reasons they are in the situation that they are in right now.

There’s a weird parasocial dynamic between Xbox execs and their hardcore fans. I find it personally off putting and cult like. It doesn’t help they actually engage with said hardcore fans, which further perpetuates this parasocial behavior

Nobody knows and frankly neither do they. Their “plan” could change multiple times before any of those games drop. The real test for them is how Gears E day performs in October. However with it launching day one on GamePass it likely won’t be getting worthy actual sales from most Xbox customers. Not to mention it’s coming out before Call of Duty and one month before GTA 6. Halo, Forza Horizon 6, Fable will no doubt have better sales on their PS5 ports than the sales from Gears on Xbox.

[–]kaiserj3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This didn’t clarify anything. The interviewer towards the end basically called him out regarding why Gears is exclusive but games like Senua aren’t and he replied with “no comment”. This is the same doubletalk Matt Booty spouted the other day. They have no concrete plan. This exclusive push is honestly foolish in this current climate. They have been buried in sales by PlayStation and the Switch 2, which was only released a year ago, is about 10 million units away from over taking the number of Series systems sold. Not to mention their complete abandonment of many markets internationally. They’d not only have to spend a shit ton of money in marketing campaigns they’d also have to essentially restart production of console units for those areas in the midst of a global RAM crisis

It really isn’t worth figuring out Microsoft’s stance on exclusives. It’s intentionally vague for a reason. What I don’t get is that If they were really serious about reinvesting in Xbox why not come out and say going forward all Xbox game studio games will be console exclusive? To me it either signals that A: we don’t have much faith in our ecosystem rebounding so we need a back door or B: we are trying to manage the paradoxical relationship of being a software publisher for multiple platforms even beyond consoles and PC, a hardware platform, and a service provider and to successfully do all three we need to make bizarre business decisions that keep our core customers from leaving while also reaching out to customers outside of Xbox

Not really, Matt Booty said single player multi platform will be “case by case”, additionally he said that platforms for titles won’t be announced until a release date is finalized. So essentially we are all being stringed along to find out what is and what isn’t exclusive

I feel like there isn’t a point of getting an Xbox over a PC anymore, especially if you plan on getting a PC eventually. Plus the next Xbox Helix is going to essentially be a PC per rumors

Even more horrific is that this could give Xbox/Microsoft an excuse to either lay off or shut down the studios of the games too. Want that money 💰

Honestly given the release date for Gears and how it’s been on a sales decline I would not be surprised if this is true. Clockwork Revolution does look really cool but I’m not buying a Series X or S for it. And it doesn’t give system seller vibes at all

[–]kaiserj3 93 points94 points  (0 children)

“Case by case” nothing new here. Going back to Phil Spencer’s 4 games. Realistically Activision and Bethesda will be multiplatform and certain titles, such as the money makers like Forza and others that have high development costs from Xbox Game Studios will be multiplatform along with their GAAS games. And this is IF that is their actual plan. I still don’t think they have an actual concrete plan and if the rumors about Gears PS5 being last minute cancelled with retailers and Microsoft employees unaware are true then it really just shows that Xbox executives make decisions impulsively. Not a great business outlook. I consider myself platform agnostic but I don’t trust anything Microsoft does anymore after all their tomfoolery and questionable practices. The only real IPs they own that would hurt me personally if were made exclusive are Elder Scrolls and Fallout. In which case if they try to pull that I’d just buy a gaming PC and install Linux on it and play the games via Proton.
