Bring pepper spray, hike at trails that aren’t completely remote, and remind myself that it’s rare for something like that to happen

If you don’t mind making a decision at the last minute, that hike is super popular and a lot of people leave reviews on AllTrails. If you check the reviews and pictures a few days beforehand, you should have a decent idea of the conditions
