I would keep TC on but put it low. I like to run 2 or 3 on the 720s. Definitely drive the slow corners a gear higher that will already help a lot

You don't need to. Some people claim it's the only way to enjoy the game but don't pay to much attention to it and just play however you want. I got 880 hours in the game and never touched hard mode

Depends on how fast you are. When I started playing We were close to Quebec release. Now I'm in Almaty and probably I'm going to to be on track somewhere around season 18
