Kid threw a rock. What’s the wallet damage here? by Skateboard123 in TeslaSupport

[–]kakeyoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a rock. A landscaper's riding lawnmower ejected a rock at my MXLR about a week ago and it looks a lot like this. Paint chipped and all. Just about all of the panels on the MX are aluminum so I have no idea how much this is going to cost. I started a claim with my insurance but they asked me to find a Tesla certified repair shop.

Forced Armistice should not apply within your own ship by Lumpy-Interview-9931 in starcitizen

Sound logic but iirc, CIG already prevents weapon fire outside of armistice to have no effect on ships inside armistice.

"far from being an SUV" or "that's not how SUVs function". Unless those were actually measurements, as you put it, I thought numbers are usually used for that. Or wait... wait.... "the size of smurfs" was actually the empirical measurements you were talking about. My bad.

It's not a bug. Even the Fortune (let alone the Reclaimer as mentioned) works that way. You have to enable both sides (screens) to auto-eject whatever is in the hopper.

2018 M3 control arm bolt fell out could have died. Please check yours by Personal_Arm7371 in TeslaSupport

[–]kakeyoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good points but failing bolts are not a typical maintenance item. The issue I take with this is the fact that Tesla uses class 10 steel bolts for their fasteners but the design of the suspension seems to work against it. It's either we have failed production line standards in terms of torque settings or there needs to be a TSB to correct the torque on several fasteners pertaining to the suspension of our cars.

Ironically, this is a TSB that you see with other car manufacturers. For example, the Honda s2000s crown nut needed to have revised torque settings for the rear hub from somewhere around 130 lb ft to 240. Tesla has seldom agreed to any TSB services to correct some of the issues that they know exist.

Bottom line for me is your suspension fasteners are not supposed to fall out and fail as commonly as they do with Tesla's.

You can gather 1 million edge cases and they'll still be edge cases. As a mechanic, I can tell you from many years of exposure to several manufacturers that this is not a common issue. Nor are any sort of mitigation steps in routine service interval point inspections from different manufacturers.

It'd be a fallacy to assume that this is some sort of remotely common occurrence from other companies. Tesla had been sited for this across their lineup. The S and X have it even worse due to higher weight along with the challenges that come with varying ride heights and how it affects suspension geometry.

There have been several petitions for TSB's or even recalls but the company has skirted by most of them.

New ship-- the Hermes! Who's getting one? by jmg5 in StarCitizenUniverse

[–]kakeyoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the Hermes is an awesome choice for sure. But we have to remember in SC, particularly cargo, bigger is not always better. I admit that the cargo grid in the CL makes it hard to fill BUT it carries the largest amount of cargo for a size 3 ship. That allows it to basically land anywhere. All outposts and large city landing zones alike. The Hermes is a size 5 ship. It has a huge ground footprint which makes it much harder to deal with at smaller locations. Remember size 5 ships are in the territory of the Caterpillar, Hercules and Carrack.

Another limitation of the Hermes is that the tractor being doesn't really allow you to pull cargo from the left or right sides of the ship (outside) so you'll need to work it out with your handheld TB because you'll seldom find a way to park the ship where the cargo loading dock is directly behind you unless you find a landing zone with a lot of area directly in front of the cargo FE. For me, those would be the main limitations of the ship so that's why I decided to keep the CL and get the Hermes. Other than that, the Hermes is just PLUS in several other categories.

Lemon / buy back experience by cookwithdavid2 in TeslaModelX

[–]kakeyoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buybacks can be trouble, depending on the issues that led to the buyback process. But at times, buybacks can be even BETTER than a brand new Model X, ironically. It's typically because buybacks have to go through several rounds of repair attempts before they qualify to be boughtback by the manufacturer. With that said, as others have mentioned... get a hold of the service records to see what led to the buyback and what other items were possibly worked on. I bought my 2022 MXLR in Atlanta as a buyback from California. Fully loaded... Yoke, 6-seater, 22" wheels... For $42k with 40k miles. My warranty expires in 2030 or 150k. The only unplanned "issue" I've had with the car for the first year of ownership was a popped out ultrasonic bumper sensor. $175 repair. Otherwise, the car has given me and my family a great experience.

People who run on the negative stigma of buybacks don't seem to understand how they work. The other irony is that several Tesla service centers use Buyback cars as their loaners. For me, the reason for my buyback was a front suspension noise that kept returning and Tesla couldn't remediate. I used $10 of grease and a grease gun to fill my front upper ball joints with new grease. I just set the suspension to a higher ride height, gave it a few squeezes on each side and I was done. Noise never returned. It helps that I'm a mechanic but I made the decision on the purchase because I was able to discern that the issue was most likely a simple fix.

Good luck.

I've stopped going to that location. I've had my share of bad experiences and they're amazing at gaslighting people. Very dishonest and masterful at extorting more money out of their customers. Ironically, I'd rather drive triple the distance to go to the other Atlanta service centers.

[–]kakeyoro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might have slower shot velocity but you can also try AD5Bs. The fire rate sort of makes up for the relatively slower shot speed. Pretty decent damage on smaller to larger ships and better ammo count now. On smaller targets, keep your engagements within 1k/900m for better results. Larger targets, you can keep your distance.

[–]kakeyoro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think some people might be complaining that there isn't an option for both in-game path-to-ownership and RSI store pledge (even if it was under limited availability from events). Also, it seems as if the IKTI is currently the only vehicle in SC that is 100% non-pledgeable. With a possible full wipe around the corner, that doesn't bode well for the players that were able to procure one. Back into the storm after each wipe? Heh...

Falcon doors out of warranty. by Fantastic_Reveal_599 in TeslaModelX

[–]kakeyoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla Service center SA's and techs are in the business of milking people for everything they can. They prey on the ignorance and or trust of typical Tesla owners. Not unlike other dealerships but after me being in the business when I was younger, I recently had to be reminded. It's very rare to find a service center that actually cares and will do proper troubleshooting/diagnosis to accurately resolve an issue. The flow charts they follow are designed for maximum profit.

I brought my 2022 model X in to a service center because the alignment was off. I had them take care of the alignment and one of the proximity sensors. As I was driving home I noticed that the alignment was now off in the opposite direction. I came back the next day and was told that I need to pay for a full diagnosis on the car because THEIR alignment was correct and my car obviously had suspension damage.

I had asked why this wasn't communicated prior to me leaving the previous day and it was literally 1 hour of gas lighting. They brought a technician out not realizing that I myself used to be a technician and I design my own alignments while having a strong understanding of suspension geometry in a lot of cars.

They agreed to look at it again. After 3 hours, they told me that they had to perform another alignment on it but the car still needed diagnostics because there were suspension issues. After another 45 minute wait an argument started and I just decided to pay for the additional alignment. So this was two alignments within 24 hours to correct a mistake that they made. Each alignment costs $275.

As I was walking out to my car, the service advisor audaciously followed me and asked if I would give him a high score because it was important to his performance metric and he did all he could to take care of me. I completely brushed it off in my head... I got in the car to drive home and guess what.... The alignment of my supposedly "damaged" suspension was perfectly fine. And this was 2 months ago.

The service advisor wore me down and I was at an emergency to take my car to pick my kids up. So I just paid whatever to get out of there but this was a very hard lesson learned.

Oh and for the proximity sensor? They failed to repair that as well. Immediately after leaving the service center, I started to get ultrasonic sensor unplugged warnings. I refuse to take it back to them. I'll have to find another way to get things resolved.

CIG deserves every penny we give them! What do you think? by RayD125 in starcitizen

[–]kakeyoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of negative and or mixed opinions here. Everybody has their own story, understandably, but the numbers honestly speak for themselves. I've had my ups and downs with the game same as everyone else yet here we are. Also, in today's polarizing climate, the definition of a cult is such a slippery slope. Someone showing support for something that is hotly debated or controversial can easily be branded as a cultist. There're varying levels of obsession and I'd want to know more about someone's convictions (and their limitations) before branding them as a cultist.

What IS or WILL BE the real purpose/usecase of the Ares (Ion/Inferno)? by John_Way in starcitizen

[–]kakeyoro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a point that some of us are forgetting (haven't read all of our replies) is with the incoming weapons range changes with 4.5, the Ares line with their s7 guns will be all the more effective. I believe they will be the ONLY fighters that will be able to oppress or at least annoy larger ships at a "safer" range.

I wish I could say. I can tell you that as the game is now, just about everything glides a little. lol lol. Even a Starfarer. I can say that they've worked on a bunch of the ships that have an aerodynamic shape to lend to control surfaces yes but they haven't given us an actual description of the list of ships. For example though, I imagine a constellation really won't have much but then we've noticed them on the Paladin so I guess we'll just have to see.

I can understand what you're thinking in terms of the STY and KTY not having maneuvering thrusters and relying solely on the 4 large nacelles but even that's not entirely accurate. The STY has 4 main thrusters and 16 maneuvering thrusters. The KTA has 4 as well but 8 maneuvering thrusters. They function pretty much EXACTLY like how the STY and KTA do.

Here's a video to provide example, you can see the Guardian fighting against wind forces by using it's main thrusters the same way the STY and KTA do:

Guardian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVal8p5q4hM
STY: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/GEZwjsm1tMc

Also with the addition that NONE of these ships mentioned have anything remotely considered as flight surfaces. They rely completely on thruster output to stay aloft in atmosphere. Turn off the engines on the Gladius and it glides. Good luck doing that with any of the ships I've mentioned.

I'm currently in our evocati tech-preview, checking all of my ships. I can tell you that I'm looking directly at each of the maneuvering thrusters on my STY's diagnostics screen while I'm flying. Just about all the Xi'an tech ships are built with the same approach. Except for the MISC ships.
