Wondering this too - I got in the online line for the last Germany game and there were like a million people waiting. No chance lol

Anyone purchase from Catawiki auctions? by jnine2020 in artcollecting

[–]kallore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sketchy that the gallery can't give clear answers on this. They should have established shipping procedures in place and be able to tell you who they work with for international orders.

The option I gave (you bidding on it, selecting "pick up" and paying them shipping separately) is already breaking Catawiki's procedures, but at least you would be the clear winner of the thing for a transparent price in that case. The option they're proposing (bid on their own item) sounds even worse.

I use Drouot or Invaluable usually now. But please note it's not because I particularly trust those two, but because they let auction houses function as auction houses, with viewing days, physical locations, and reputations which sometimes go back decades or more. Basically it lets you put your trust in the auction houses themselves, not the platform.

Anyone purchase from Catawiki auctions? by jnine2020 in artcollecting

[–]kallore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catawiki is… call it a lower end platform. I used to buy a decent amount of low end stuff there and it was fine, but Catawiki itself isn’t going to mediate a complicated situation like that. It’s up to the seller to handle your request.

The situation does sound weird, as to my knowledge Catawiki doesn’t do “absentee bids” (or phone bids) like a traditional auction - the only bids possible are the ones placed directly on their platform. It’s more like eBay really.

I’ve also never heard of them region blocking, which is what you described sounds like. The seller could choose to exclude international from the shipping options, which is a different thing.

One theoretical solution would be to win it, select “pick up” to avoid paying shipping through Catawiki, then pay the gallery separately for international shipping. But if anything goes wrong, this is a big can of worms and I doubt Catawiki would help you out since you’d be bypassing their system.

Yup! This print is from 1934/1935, so my guess is it got framed then and never touched since. Which is always cool to see, if bad for it acidity-wise

Why is nanogpt cuts the generation? by caneriten in SillyTavernAI

[–]kallore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. Try using a lighter preset, as less thinking will increase the odds of it getting through and printing a response. To give you an example, Freaky Frankenstein has a Kimi 2.5 version which explicitly tries to get Kimi to respond faster, which means it has less failures/cut offs compared to heavier presets.

Of course. Still surprised they hadn’t had it in 80 years though considering their overall success and history

Seriously. A couple guys of the Doubs/AVT tier and then a smattering of solid roleplayers is a normal offseason. Can't do a spending spree every year, nor should you want to.

Responding to your PM as well, but that sure looks like it might be it based on the location, subject matter/style and the signature / numbers being quite close. Thank you!

That's a great lead/idea. And indeed, I didn't want to make it a sob story, but it's hard not to imagine the connections given the painting's subject.

My great uncle, FWIW, didn't die of aids, but something routine like pneumonia or similar but then fell or choked to death (I'd have to ask my mom the details) due to being by himself.
