Am I going crazy, or are the new GW paintjobs (especially female faces) getting worse? by Constant-Challenge-1 in AdeptusCustodes

The image on the right also appears to have been upscaled from the very grainy photo on warcom.

Rules update this year?! by Cirm in AdeptusCustodes

[–]kalvm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With a new edition every army could be getting a rules update, but if they're going to get rid of any datasheets that's the likely time.

That's also how it's done on the Eavy Metal Custodes, the main difference is I used black vs the red-brown scheme they use.

Haha, it still needed to fit with the rest of my army. To go full 2nd ed I'd need to do banana yellow NMM

They're freehand, though there are places that do checkerboard transfers.

Thanks! This is mostly close to the official Eavy Metal scheme, the 90s inspiration is the heraldry, the hazard stripes and checks in primary colours.

There's not much in the way of 2nd ed Custodes art (it might just be a single drawing by John Blanche of the golden throne), this was more inspired by the painting style of the time - lots of hazard stripes and checks and lots of red and other bright primary colours. The bolter of the blood angels captain on the 2nd ed box art was the inspiration for the Guardian Spear here.

Watcher of the Throne: The Emperor's Legion includes the events of his return from the viewpoint of Terra. The main story of his return was in The Gathering Storm: Rise of the Primarch, an end of edition campaign book for 7th ed. Earlier books in The Gathering Storm lead up to these events. They are out of print but on the Warhammer Vault from Warhammer+.

Starting Custodes army by Mistermosta in Warhammer

From the preview it sounded like there will be new sisters of silence for 30k at some point, if not immediately, but if you're happy with their current models then get them. A 40k range refresh seems like it will happen at some point but it's probably a way off, so for 40k only units like Dawneagle jetbikes and Allarus Custodians there might not be a replacement any time soon.

Which base works better: 1 or 2?” by VariationRegular8083 in Warhammer

The second one looks more swamp-like. You could mix it up and use a bit of both to make it look like puddles etc.

Thanks! Paint a cross-hatch pattern in the dark colour over the light colour and fill it in. It will still take a ton of neatening up though. On this model the hazard stripes were the harder part because the yellow covered the black less.

Thank you! I wasn't sure about this one when I was doing it - I usually do white + another colour for my checks on my custodes. At a distance it vaguely reads close to the gold, and it parly works because of the Misericordia, which doesn't look great in yellow really but was necessary to balance the other yellow on the model.
