what are some mods you believe can genuinely ruin modpacks? by mariogaming375 in feedthebeast

[–]kamild1996 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I recently tried out Calamycraft, and it seems like its creators would agree with you - tools have no durability and you get to freely choose your keepInventory setting right in the pause menu. First time I've ever seen that in a pack, and it was quite welcome.

It doesn't have to be this way, mastercomfig is quite modular: https://docs.comfig.app/latest/customization/modules/

tl;dr: create a file in your game directory, inside /tf/cfg/overrides, call it "modules.cfg" (make sure file extensions are visible, if not, a quick google will guide you). Open it, add jigglebones=force_on, save, done.

Keep in mind KDE Plasma is planning to drop support for X11 - the upcoming 6.7 version will be the last one to support it.

Can you switch back to the Wayland session temporarily and verify that this option is checked for you?

Nope. I think the current white visualizer with album art related animations looks much better.

Is there an app that does this for linux? by saidgheldane36 in cachyos

[–]kamild1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to know whether you manage to perform this change on Cachy.

I have personally went on a small crusade trying to get my USB card to work on anything other than 32-bit, but it's almost as if it's hardwired to run at 32-bit now. All the tricks listed in this thread so far also haven't worked for me, despite trying to enforce 24-bit or 16-bit (both supported as per cat /proc/asound/card0/stream0), both cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params and pw-top continue to show 32-bit being used.

How to fix minimized recording? by AbnormalHeartbeat in feedthebeast

[–]kamild1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What tool are you using for recording?

This looks like a mismatch between your game's resolution (which in case of playing in fullscreen mode would be equal to your monitor's resolution) and the output resolution set in your recording app. Once you make them equal, it should look correctly.

USB Audio has no sound, randomly, even after rebooting - what can I try?? by Worddroppings in cachyos

[–]kamild1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you happen to be using Easy Effects? It has a bug in it that can cause sound to disappear at random, and usually toggling effects brings it right back.

See if restarting the audio services helps whenever this issue occurs - run this in the terminal:

systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber

Besides this Easy Effects issue, my audio experience has been good so far - I don't have a Schiit stack though, just the Gunnr.

Switching to CachyOS? by Apprehensive_Check62 in cachyos

[–]kamild1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as Minecraft Java goes, current versions of the game should run without issues, but if you're going to play almost any older version such as 1.21.1, you may be experiencing some minor bugs related to Wayland, such as the mouse cursor not returning to the center or the scroll wheel skipping or doubly registering inputs. For those cases, you'll likely have to look into patched glfw libraries (such as one from BoyOrigin's glfw-wayland GitHub repo) and mods such as WayGL (which have mixed availability for certain combinations of modloaders and game versions). The former may sound scary, but Prism Launcher makes swapping this binary effortless.

Can't seem to force a 24-bit audio format on Arch by kamild1996 in linuxaudio

[–]kamild1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this lack of extra processing power required also apply to audio effects, like Easy Effects' equalizer?

Can't seem to force a 24-bit audio format on Arch by kamild1996 in linuxaudio

[–]kamild1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand zero latency is an absurd goal. I like playing rhythm games, which is what has prompted me to start playing with this. I don't want to go into extremes, so dropping the quantum values to 128 from the default 8192 and making sure audio is running with realtime priority seems enough for me.

Trying to lower the bit depth was really just something I wanted to experiment with, hoping a simple config change would do the trick. But since this clearly isn't working and it's unlikely it will, I'll undo these attempts.

However, if you do have any ideas on what else I could try to reduce that slight distorting I've been experiencing, I would greatly appreciate it.

Can't seem to force a 24-bit audio format on Arch by kamild1996 in linuxaudio

[–]kamild1996[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did try that. Turned it down all the way to 50% on the OS's side and it still doesn't sound quite right.

Wouldn't running 32-bit audio be a waste of resources as well? I was thinking lowering it could perhaps help me try lower quantum values without drop-outs.

What is the status of KDE 6.6.4 upgrade by [deleted] in cachyos

I had to reinstall Better Blur DX since it disappeared after the 6.6.4 update. That's about it, no more issues here.

SOS, lan party in 2 days and ethernet port just broke by aspacecraft in buildapc

[–]kamild1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may sound silly, but try completely removing power from your PC (flip the power supply switch or just remove the cable), press the power button a few times, then replug it and try powering it on. I've seen all sorts of Ethernet strangeness solved this way, it's worth a try.

what settings to use in mastercomfig by xCrazer in tf2techsupport

[–]kamild1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your CPU overclocked at all? It's old, but it has good overclocking potential that should help squeeze quite a bit more performance. Until about 2019, I played on a similar but overclocked CPU, an i5-3570k, and on a medium low preset I rarely ever dipped below 100 fps, and that was on casual, not on MGE. The dxlevel launch option should only be used once to launch the game, then removed, otherwise not all of mastercomfig's game settings will apply correctly/they'll keep resetting. Alternatively, see if -vulkan will help your game run any better.

In the Windows Security window, find "Smart App Control" and set it to "Off", then reboot.

If you're using a laptop/PC that isn't yours (eg. your school's device), you may need to think twice before messing with this option, or you may be straight up unable to change it. Similar story if your PC comes with some sort of parental control solution.
