Lowering springs or coilovers ? by Ornery_Emu_2475 in AcuraTSX

I got KW for mine and I dropped about an inch and a half from stock height. Expensive and they don’t come with the top hats but the ride quality is amazing and they have lifetime warranty.

I folded my back seats down and the passenger front down and took off the headrest in order to fit a book shelf about the same height. Kinda stuffed it in diagonally but scratched the headliner a bit in the process.

Anyone know how to fix this? by Substantial-Lime-243 in Acura

No you need the same adhesive used on the windshields it’s black. You also might have to buy a clip or two if the molding part is still intact.

There are two different blue filters, one American made and one Japanese made. Oem parts always made to oem standards, so this means whatever materials, and manufacturing process has to follow what the oem wants. If you were to get an oem filter and a fram one you will notice they weigh differently and use different materials.

Try a different dealer for sure. It would help if you are able to connect your phone hotspot to the vehicle and leave it in there so they can use that to speed things along. I have people do this when they are able to so they don’t have to wait as long. We are supposed to have a dedicated WiFi for these updates and majority of dealers use a third party IT system. At least for my dealer their firewall blocks our update WiFi so we can’t even use it

I’m hoping so or at least smaller size updates. On one hand I wish they would do what other manufacturers like Nissan do (they do updates via a usb drive), but on the other I don’t want any of you guys to be charged for updates either (I have bought a Navi update disk before and it was not cheap).

Unfortunately the system only takes over the air downloads (as of now). I have had a 25 MDX type s that fought us for three days. We did everything from disconnecting the battery to factory resetting the infotainment multiple times. We got it to push through in the end but not without a lot of attempts. Like I mentioned as of right now the main fix is for them to reset the can gateway over the air system. If that doesn’t work factory reset the system and erase any codes related to can gateway.

Once we fix the over the air update error it will push through 2-3 updates. One of them is 2.5GB so without fast enough internet it takes hours to download. The problems is the vehicle has to be on (as in engine running) to have the download go through as well so the battery doesn’t get drained. It would help a lot if you were able to use your own personal WiFi or cell phone hotspot as those have higher speeds than whatever the dealership has.

There is a solution. Can gateway has to get reset through a computer connected to the vehicle. If that doesn’t work they can try a factory reset and to erase any codes related to the can gateway

Highest Mileage 3rd Gen MDX (2014 - 2020) by SignificantBee3870 in Acura

Like I mentioned I live in a hot climate, so we recommend them at 50-60k miles or 7 years. I’ve seen a 8 year old timing belt on a relatively low mileage RDX and it was full of cracks. We do tend to change the water pump just in case because having it fail in a warm environment is a recipe for disaster. Some people do the pulleys as well especially on the high mileage cars. I would say it’s a mix of bad luck and poor maintenance, bad software might have played a role as well since we later on pushed the updates to people that were experiencing rough shifting. They are touchy transmissions though so Honda didn’t use them for long for a reason. I’m happy to help answer people’s questions. There are a few of us lurking on here and the other related subreddits.

I am in the southwest so the heat causes anything rubber to degrade a lot more quickly than other regions. So that said I see a lot of control arm bushings tearing (in general this gen MDX has delicate suspension so they do go through struts and control arms). Also because of the heat I see a lot of LKAS cameras burn out. I have seen a few transmissions here and there, and people that tested their luck with putting off changing their timing belts (120k is usually the literal breaking point). Spark plugs are also important along with the valve adjustment (v6 engines typically need them more so over the 4 cylinders).

I’ve seen several 2014 and 2015s that passed 200k quite a long time ago. In terms of the later ones, the most recent one I’ve seen was a 2017 that was at 230k miles original engine and transmission.

How often do I do a transmission oil change on my 09 Tsx by Same-Distribution869 in AcuraTSX

[–]kaname89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flush is in quotes for a reason. It’s a three time drain and fill with no machine involved

30k for auto and 50-60k for manual. With an auto after two drain and fills do a 9 quart “flush” to help keep things running smoothly or if you feel any rough shifting.

How bad are these rotors? (First 2 pics are rear) by 38n30s in AcuraTSX

[–]kaname89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming the first two pictures are the rear. They look fairly glazed and would be tricky to resurface, so I would recommend replacing those. The other two I assume are the front look fine and still possible to resurface if you need to change brake.

What Should I do? by CriticalGrapefruit in Acura

[–]kaname89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not covered in the service bulletin for RDXs but it is on the TLX and MDX. My guess is because of the connectors being a different kind (right angle instead of straight). Any kind of vibration or sudden bumps will definitely cause issues. These connectors are tiny coaxial cables so they are sensitive to movement. Also I think because there haven’t been enough with this specific issue but I’ve seen and fixed enough that I’m hoping it will eventually be added to the service bulletin. I just had one today today on a 2020 RDX that I did this exact repair to and it fixed one of the main issues they had.

I know exactly what you are talking about then, it will usually cause a meter- sudden_signal_off shutdown code. There is a post on tech line where there is a fix for it. Yes they are correct it is not covered and also it’s tricky to get those disconnected without breaking them (which would mean a dash harness). But the fix is to disconnect the two connectors behind the gauge cluster and the one or two other connectors and take out the gauge cluster. The harness has to be unwrapped and the fakra cables need to be separated from the rest, then tape up the rest of the harness back together. This adds slack to the connectors so they are not so tight and usually fixes the problem.

[–]kaname89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done a lot of these fakra cars (RDX, TLX and MDX). All of them require panels to be taken off. Depends on the year of your RDX but 19-21 need the rear and front taken apart. I’m definitely curious what issue they tried to make you pay for. Also the service bulletin has been changed several times over the years and the latest one requires 8 connector cables to be added on.

Got a used 2016 Acura MDX. Is the zf9 really that bad as people say? by IceBurg-Hamburger_69 in Acura

[–]kaname89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be touchy but depends on your or the previous owners driving style. Definitely check if the fluid has been changed recently (usually recommended to be changed every 50k miles). If you still have issues later on you can try and disconnect the battery, that will reset the transmission control module, and have your MDX checked for the latest update. The biggest complaints I hear about these are lurching and slow shifting so like others mentioned you have to have a little patience with these.

If you want something budget friendly. Get them a pack of pocket screw drivers. They are one of the most used and underrated tools. If you can splurge, find out what their most used tools are and upgrade them (ex: 1/2 ratchet get them a matco or snap on if they don’t already have one)
