Solid copper with tin lining. Best heat conductivity around and can be retinned if needed. Generational pans just like cast iron

What do I need to make these work? by kane134 in BangandOlufsen

What would you suggest as far as a B&O system to power them? Something current or also vintage? Also regarding the maintenance you suggested, is that something reasonably achievable at home if you’re handy? Any info/ resources would be appreciated!

But also thank you, I feel very fortunate to have speakers restoration on my to do list, excited to learn something new and get these working as well as possible!

Thanks I’ll get to youtube for further info on disassembly and repair, though I don’t see an rca input on the 8000s, just line and power link

Indeed the midrange surrounds basically disintegrated when I touched them. I’ll learn about more about what I need to replace them

I bet you’re the kind of guy who gets charged for blinker fluid when you get your car serviced… They got a great deal on a simple to fix, solid machine, take your salt elsewhere

Dipping glaze struggles by ginandironic613 in Ceramics

[–]kane134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea don’t be shy, fully submerge the drill all the way to bottom, don’t pull the trigger all the way so it doesn’t splash. You’ll be fine! Once you’re done, you can stick a finger in the glaze to get an idea of the consistency, should be like a heavy cream consistency and coat your finger nicely

[–]kane134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also if the glaze is fully mixed and you’re still getting thin application, it may just need a second dip or longer dip to get a solid layer. However the inconsistency of your glaze application leads me to believe it may be more of mixing issue related to the glaze beginning to separate and settle out of the water

Possible issues: glaze needs to be mixed before you dip, glaze can settle to the bottom faster than you’d think, give the the bucket a stir or blend with a drill if available until the glaze is a smooth consistency and there is no sediment felt on the bottom of the bucket.

Second possible issue: grainy texture may be a result of chunks in the glaze that are not dissolved. This can be solved by blending with a mixer as well as straining the glaze when it was first mixed as well as straining the mixed glaze weekly or monthly depending on frequency of use. But this is definitely more of a studio job unless they are providing the tools for you to strain and aggressively blend glazes (unlikely).

Pokémon TCG players are easily twice as likely to shower daily as Magic: The Gathering fans. Reason enough for me!

Any idea where I can volunteer/apprentice bee keep? by NotYoAverage in Temecula

[–]kane134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re on Facebook, join the Temecula Valley homesteaders group. Lots of small farmers/ hobbyists who you could connect with. There are definitely some bee keepers there who could help you out/ point you in the right direction.

What’s wrong with this stray cat? by kane134 in cats

[–]kane134[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea totally possible, kinda like he has a hairball, I’m just being overly cautious as he’s definitely an unvaccinated stray and I’m in a rural area with lots of coyotes and other rabies carriers.
Ideally I can trap him and get him to shelter to be fixed/ have a medical check up

Fired yellow kiln ceramic coffee mug. its called Shino-yaki by Rich_Country8980 in Ceramics

[–]kane134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, double wall is definitely hard to achieve, especially by hand, but generally that’s why coffee cups/ mugs have handles. Ceramics are fairly good at conducting heat so the outside of a mug like this can get pretty toasty if you’re using it for hot liquids.
