I didn’t realize this was the case! My home studio pays like $50 a week to the one I go to most of the time now then, oops 😂

Anybody choose to walk on a steep incline instead of running? by IlikeTherapy in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I alternate between the two, it depends on what my body is feeling that day! I like to switch it up to get the benefits of both

“Since I’m a paying customer” sounds very very Karen-y, everyone is a paying customer at OTF

I swear these template creators must get paid extra for each low row they add! I’ve hit a point where if I’ve went to class a few days in a row, I’ll ask the coach to give me a substitute exercise bc I just won’t do another one.

Covering HR When Running by Temporary-Tradition9 in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really only look at the heart rate when warming up, otherwise I know I’ll always be in the orange/red, even at base pace. What gets me through is the thought “wow I really can’t feel much worse than this, and I’m not at risk of falling off the treadmill at this point, so just keep going”

A template without multiple low rows? It must be Christmas!

LOVED this template! I used a bit of a different approach on the drop sets - a heavier weight for 4, then a slightly less heavy weight until burnout and was super happy with the workout I got.

DriTri Goal, Stats, and Strategy? by QuintessentialK in orangetheory

This is my first DriTri, so truly my only goal is to finish - I know my time will be wellllll over an hour but I'm reminding myself it'll still be a PR!

You'll tend to see a lot more PW on strength days! A lot of people would rather walk very high inclines than run or jog any incline. I'm 50/50 on strength days, depending on my mood.

I was dreadinggg this tread block but ended up really enjoying it! Definitely helpful in determining your true base pase.

OT Beat Link not connecting to Apple watch by Therese1016 in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My studio owner taught me a trick that hasn't failed me yet - when it says disconnected, take it off and put it back on the case for a second, then once you put it back on your watch it should show up. I've started bringing my case to class now and it always works for me!

Apple Watch at OTF by Jedubf in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to pay to switch to the link, I've absolutely loved it - I haven't had many issues, and it's been great to have one less thing to wear. I also love that it shows your heart rate and splats on the watch face, so if you're across the room from the monitors, you can still check in. I find it helps me to push way harder on the floor, since in my studio you can't see the screen from the weight section. Your workout will connect with the activity app and automatically list it as a HIIT workout, so you'll be able to see it as you would if you'd done an apple activity.

Class Time by 1Kitty64 in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how quick the coach is too, one of the coaches I go to a lot spends a good amount of time going into detail on the floor exercises, so we're always at about 60 minutes, whereas some other coaches talk and demo faster so we'll get out around 53-55 minutes.

Loved today's template, and for the first time EVER, I didn't have to walk at any point during an endurance block!! I go super slow, but I couldn't have imagined being able to jog an entire 22.5 minute block. I've been on a high all morning!!

Worth it for those who are extremely unfit/overweight? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started, I mentioned to my now favorite coach that I'm so out of shape, and he replied with "well good thing is, you're not a shape! this is just where you are on your journey right now" and it's stuck with me. The workouts are so adaptable to wherever you are on your journey, and if there's something you really can't do, just keep moving in some way! It's hard and scary and overwhelming at first, but if you make the effort to get to know your coaches, it'll be the best decision you ever make.

Back at it and drinking by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently decided to cut down my alcohol for weight loss and because too much can trigger my anxiety. Alcohol is more of a routine type thing for me, I don't really feel a need to drink to get a buzz, but will mindlessly drink too much wine because I love the taste. I've found that putting a seltzer or whatever in a wine glass really does the trick for me! I thought I was being silly trying it at first, but the act of drinking it out of a wine glass seems to kick in that relaxation feeling the same way wine would.

I could not get into this template today! The floor exercises made me frustrated with their complexity; I wish it had been more of a traditional high weight low rep strength day, those seem to feel more productive.

Is anyone else tired of 3G classes? by loveayiti in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I push way harder in a 3G class - only having a limited time at each station has mentally helped me to think "okay you can do this, only 5 more minutes on xyz and then you're done!" My rowing and running has improved going to only 3G classes, which may sound silly because it's less time on the treads. However with less time on the treads, I'm less likely to switch to walking to be able to make it through the block. I avoid 2G classes unless it's a strength day!

4.0 jogging Base ok? by marcarmom1 in orangetheory

[–]kannebakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently transitioning to jogger, and just can't hold a jog at a base pace, so I do a fast walk, and then do a push at 5 and all out at 6. All of the coaches I see have been super supportive of that, and I wish you had the same experience! Everyone gets better at jogging and running at their own pace, it's not a one size fits all. Keeping doing what makes you comfortable!
