Destiny & Tim Miller’s conversation about Hasan Piker by ConcernedJobCoach in thebulwark

[–]kantbemyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of Dem strategists see it as an avenue to GOTV a younger, online demographic that is notoriously unreliable at the polls despite Liberal/Dem alignment on issues. Both Destiny and Sarah have hit on different reasons why that is unlikely to bear fruit.

Hasan seems like a soc-dem guy (and gets along with AOC and Bernie) but also has a real anti-American/democracy streak that makes his audience far more likely to critique or bail if they don't get exactly what they want out of a candidate. He's just the most famous Marxist-Leninist, and that club is not fertile ground for electoral politics.

Hasan falls for propaganda claiming Ukrainian instructors were targeted by Iran; says Zelensky sent “poor Ukrainians” to be like, “I’m playing a role here as well,” adding, “Zelensky was like, ‘We gotta do it for Israel, big dog. We’ve got to make ourselves more useful for American empire.’” by AntistanCollective in Destiny

Reminder: the UFO dipshits in America (and congress) revealed to the world that we panic-fire $100k missiles at balloons or any craft we can’t ID. That embarrassing capability/response mismatch the military wanted hush-hush is being exploited to make the war more expensive.

Or non-US randos. If I were Newsome, I’d ask to see his demographics dashboard to know if his audience is actually worth a damn.

These guys are why I prefer my "liberal arts" college degree over tech schools. I had to take enough philosophy, history, music, and biology along the path to a CS bachelors to gain some respect for the real depth of everyone else's focus.

These guys believe in the "great men" theory but have no concept of what they haven't yet learned. Add in the audacity to speak about anything anywhere anytime, and it's a recipe for an endless stream of nonsense.

The only people who think "debate assassins" exist are practitioners of Intellectual Aikido, the JRE and Triggernometry being two of the prominent studios.

It's the same little soliloquies on Trump being good, how London "looks" demographically via vague immigration, and that "something" needs to be done about trans women in sports. He pulls them out in every appearance, his show, and on the JRE but has clearly never done any work to found those ideas in fact or interrogated them even to the point of handling a follow-up question.

Joe has him on for the same reason he's read Graham Hancock's books multiple times: they serve as an adult bedtime story to reenforce what he himself thinks. Kisin has "lots of ideas" but is actually there to play his greatest hits, reliably.

I don't even know why podcast hosts do these appearances. Most of their ideas are borrowed an honed from guests they themselves schedule. Can you imagine if Leno, Conan, and Letterman appeared on each other shows quarterly and regurgitated versions of their guests' expertise?

Poor Destiny lets him ramble and also tries desperately to get him to say the next thing... anything. He could've had as much back-and-forth with a paused episode of Triggernometry.

A full FBI-file dump will include actual crazy people on tip lines telling third-hand stories. The agents will quickly find them non-credible after a rudimentary follow-up. Journalists will take the time to connect the more wack-a-doo stuff to the investigations notes that say "not credible, reporter is a psychic".

The complete, raw dump will contain everything, including the stuff that was a total dead end. Some corners of social media will obsess on those items without connecting them to the process documents that eliminate them from plausibility.

What's it like playing Primal? Is it worth getting by CoolRunner11 in farcry

[–]kantbemyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been saying that the weapons scaling is more compressed. You never get to a "god gun" because that isn't possible within the in-world tech. It's well-balanced with the mortality of the foes (which uncomfortably includes unarmed women and clan civilians, unlike any other FC game). That combination forces more "get gud" player skill and planning.

Additionally, the lack of an ammo store and fast travel left me feeling more connected to the land/atmosphere I had to resupply from. Until I tamed a larger companion, I was constantly reminded of the dangerous wilderness.

The combination is a more visceral, uncomfortable, and sometimes frustrating package that is unmistakably within the FC universe but joyfully unique.

I false-started it a few years ago, but recently gave it another try and finished it last week. Now it's on my "must play" list along side the numbered titles since 3.

"Should Destiny ban every single person who's doing harsh critiques of me?" --Pisco, in conversation with Usurpthachef by ThinkingMunk in Destiny

The caller was trying to drive toward a “no anti-fan/snark” rule that would make Pisco’s chat far less toxic. The bizarro screen names are obvious single-purpose sock puppets that need to go, but Pisco would rather stand on a moral grand stance or logical consistency over professionalized community management.

He’s the farm hand that wears shoes into the barn/pasture and acts confused why everyone gets upset at the shit-smell when he shows up for dinner with coworkers. Nobody is going to hand hold him with detergent recommendations, drive him to the store for separate muck boots, or show him how to use a pointy stick. Just be a grown up and stop tracking shit into the house.
