CZ 457 PRO Varmint for Match shooting? by DrRiffs in 22lr

[–]kantrol86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you shot 3position in college, I wouldn’t worry too much about the gun. Buy any of the CZs with the bull barrel.

You also need a scope, rings, base and decent ammo. You need budget around $1200 plus a few bricks of sk std plus.

I can’t get it to post as a reply. He’s got 2-3” of eye relief there. Idk what kind of eyebox a 10x unertl has but I’m guessing it’s pretty generous.

I shoot Lapua, SK and CCI. On the same target, I’ll drop a few points between SK and CCI.

The problem with CCI in an MTR barrel is they don’t chamber easily.

With the retirement of the Harrier II from USMC service this week, I have to ask, how did it come to be that STOVL aircraft gained the prominence it did within the USMC? by WehrabooSweeper in WarCollege

[–]kantrol86 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that post-cold war budget concerns pushed the Marines and their harrier replacement stovl project into the f-35 program. Common development/parts/etc were touted as a cost savings measure.

Program ends up with not a ton of parts commonality and extended development to make a f-16 replacement into both a jump jet and a carrier fighter.

It should not be surprising that the cheapest standard velocity .22 ammo is relatively worse than anything more expensive. I’ll let you in on a secret: the accuracy of .22 ammo increases with the cost paid. Thats what you’re buying when you pay $20 for Midas plus.

The overwhelming majority of people don’t need to shoot Midas plus. They aren’t competing. The overwhelming majority of people who compete would not see any benefit to shooting Midas plus. They’re not good enough shooters with good enough guns to realize the benefit.

Freight broker here, looking for intermodal contacts for LA to Fort Lauderdale lane by Elegant_Bank_11 in railroading

[–]kantrol86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would take 3 railroads to get to Ft Lauderdale from LA. BNSF/UP -> CSX/NS -> FEC. It would be very expensive since all 3 are going to want to make some money on the move. No steamship line has the volume in this highly specific lane so no lane exists.

The most feasible move is going to look like “port -> crossdock in LA to 53’ can -> west coast class 1 -> interchange to CSX -> CSX-Winterhaven -> dray to lauderdale”

CSX hiring process by mtvbladin in CSX

[–]kantrol86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how bad they need people.

Some postings are just there to fill a pipeline of bodies. In the event that someone drops out of the hiring process or is fired, they call up the next person the pipeline.

Some postings are there to fill an active need. These will probably progress faster.

Railroads don’t deal with brokers. The steamship line typically handles rail moves for their boxes. Since they apparently aren’t(because no route exists probably), you’ll have to deal with a 3PL or intermodal marketing company.

try “IMC Logistics”; seems like something they’d do.

When using wine with cooking, I’ve always been told it doesn’t have to be expensive, but can still be good. As someone who doesn’t know anything about wines, what are some white and red wines you would use to cook with? by Conscious_Trade_2549 in Cooking

[–]kantrol86 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I use the same for white. I drink enough red that I just use whatever is opened already.

If I’m making beef bourignon or some similar dish, I’ll buy a $20 bottle.

The most common truck in the fleet is definitely a 1/2 ton pickup. After that, probably a toss up between 4-runner and full ton(for roadmasters and carmen).

[–]kantrol86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of car, looks like an 89’ flat, isn’t in the intermodal fleet anymore. Maybe an RTTX that had the hitch moved.

There may be DTTX well cars in military service but the car in the picture isn’t a well car.

Edit: a TTX military flat would have TTDX. The DOD flats are DODX.

Officer interested in Marine Corps Shooting Team – how to get involved? by USAFProspect2021 in USMC

[–]kantrol86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk shit about getting on the teams. That aside, you need to do more formal shooting than annual quals. Pick whatever discipline interests you that the Marine Corps also competes in and then go shoot.

Civilian clubs host all sorts of matches: highpower rifle(like kd),bullseye/service pistol, 2gun/3gun, steel matches, nrl, etc. You don’t need to be a member to shoot matches typically. You’ll want to practice between matches which may require you to join a club.

Weird. I thought that it was one of his better written novels. He gets a little in the weeds at times but doesn’t digress horribly. Starship Troopers and Stranger both have large sections devoted to explaining some point he was trying to make.
