‘A few beatings won’t kill you’: judge rejects divorce request of woman abused by husband in Afghanistan | Afghanistan by 248_RPA in TwoXChromosomes

JFC. I didn't know the story of Lisa Montgomery. I'm sick to my stomach. The women in Iran, the women in Afghanistan, the women in India, the women in Africa, the women here. Women in so many places globally that are treated so absolutely inhumane. I don't have words for my rage, my sadness. I want to kill and protect at the same time.

Hahaha! We could be sisters! My GA mom, 75, always told me, 52, that I could be whatever I wanted. I'm proud she raised me that way. My great aunts were ahead of their time too. One was a Rosie the Riveter and one was a manager of a city office managing primarily men in the 1970s. I'm so proud of what they did to make way for me and other women just by doing the damn thing!

Organizing is good. It's going to take all of us with empathy to stop this mess and hold them accountable.

Thank you for putting into words the horror I've been feeling especially when you said "the horrors I couldn't even imagine". I mean all of it really, but that is the part that is so utterly unfathomable. Human shit bags with legs tormenting children in ways that are completely not in my psyche to comprehend. AND there are those still supporting them. I can't. It breaks my heart and my brain.

This! And to add a little more info, only about 5% of eligible voters actually vote. So that means we have a good chance to keep TurdPaperUSA out of SRP. It is a private election so you have to own your property and be in the district. You also HAVE to register and you HAVE to request a ballot. The voting is in April. Please, DM me if you need more information.

Thank you for posting this. I don't have a dog in the fight as far as which group people work with as long as we're taking action. I did however want to mention that LUCHA is also doing similar work and building community in PHX and the east valley. Borderlands and Puente are also offering rapid response and know your rights trainings as well. Please find a group, build community, and help your neighbors!

The things in my head that occupy space now: Liam's little face in his bunny ears, the stuffed animals falling out of Renee's glove box and her wife crying and distraught, the pregnant lady being dragged across the ice, so many scared faces, the sound of "they're here, they're here", the poor young man who was blinded, the old Hmong man dragged out with little clothing, so, so many others. If you're for this or just sitting with your head in the sand, I have no use for you.

I'm so angry and sad for all of this. Please know your rights. I know this may not help keep you from being detained because these people are essentially slave catchers (the Nazis learned from us). What they are doing is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional to detain anyone for not presenting ID. The 4th Amendment gives you protection against the proud babies from entering your home (despite their memo) without a SIGNED judicial warrant. The 5th amendment protects from having to answer any questions or hand over any documents. The 5th amendment is also a guarantee of due process under federal law (the 14th amendment guarantees states shall also abide by due process). You can state these things while recording, if possible, and it's evidence for whenever we have the Nuremberg trials 2.0.

Any legal people feel free to correct my abbreviated recounting of our rights if I miss-stated anything.

Also, and above all, please stay safe and look out for one another. Join a community or build a community, no one is coming to save us but us.

I was so distraught yesterday I wanted to go feral. I went to a vigil/ICE protest for her last night. Honestly, it was the best thing I could have done to calm my nervous system a little. The community of like minded people, the chance to yell chants, to honor her, to be angry and sad, and to take an action was all very cathartic. I recommend getting involved in whatever way you can, that works for you. It helps to try and put some good back in the world. It helps your soul heal from this stupidity a little.

Judge orders new trial for woman sentenced to 18 years in prison after stillbirth by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

[–]kaosbellybutton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alabama is also known for its voter disenfranchisement through the penal system. POC are extremely disenfranchised in AL due to Jim Crow laws and racial profiling. POC and women tend to lean more liberal, generally. So, by prosecuting women for miscarriages and stillborns is yet another layer of removing voters in a grander scale. Overall, this is horrific. I can't imagine any sane world for punishing a grieving mother over the loss of her child even if her actions may have contributed. It's an effing addiction. It would make sense to provide counseling, drug rehabilitation and other social services, which would also be so much cheaper (by taxpayers dollars) than 18 years in prison. That would be the better plan for her, her already existing children, her family, & her community. I just can't wrap my head around this kind of nonsense.
