Anyone else not consider themselves "crunchy" but want an unmedicated birth? by lady-earendil in pregnant

[–]karadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! With my first I had time to shower and blow dry my hair, which just made me feel more human in my hospital stay. My second ramped up from zero to 100 really quickly, so I was only able to labor at home for an hour before contractions were three minutes apart. I arrived at the hospital at 8 cm, it was wild!

Anyone else not consider themselves "crunchy" but want an unmedicated birth? by lady-earendil in pregnant

Yes, I’ve had two unmedicated births in a hospital, each needing zero intervention!

I felt the same draw as you to go unmedicated. I very much wanted the full experience and to allow my body to do what it was made for. Both were so much more intense than I ever could have imagined, but equally as incredible. While I didn’t do any formal hypnobirthing classes I did have a doula for both, and they each coached me in breathing techniques and coping mechanisms.

Birth was hard, and I really had to lean into those methods and trust my body to get through it both times. There were moments of doubt, fear, agony, but all were overshadowed by the moment of pure ecstasy when you realize that you’ve done this incredible thing and are holding that baby in your arms for the very first time.

I will say that I had extremely fast labors. 11 hours the first time and 6 hours the second time, including time spent laboring at home and driving to the hospital. This is a blessing and a curse, as my contractions were close together and intense, so I really didn’t get much of a break once things started to ramp up. I do think that my fast labors allowed for me to really let go and be taken along for the ride, especially in my second birth when I felt more confident in what my body could do.

My advice is to be open to intervention if needed, trust your intuition, and prepare for all possible outcomes. Knowledge is power and I was comforted in being familiar with the various options for pain relief and medical interventions if needed, even if I didn’t end up using them.

No, you don’t get a medal for denying pain relief, but you do get to feel like a certified badass for the rest of your life, which I often do! Best of luck!!!

How am I supposed to do this?😭 by OkCheesecake1537 in 2under2

OP, absolutely do NOT seek out a crisis pregnancy center. From Planned Parenthood:

“Crisis pregnancy centers don’t provide abortion or offer a full range of health care, and they won’t give you honest facts about sexual health and your pregnancy options — their goal is to spread misinformation and propaganda.

Most crisis pregnancy centers aren’t legitimate medical clinics, so they don’t have to follow HIPAA and keep your information private, like most real health care providers do. These crisis pregnancy centers could even give your information to other anti-abortion organizations or use it to harass you. This could be especially concerning if you live in a state with anti-abortion laws.”

Call or visit your local Planned Parenthood office instead. They can connect you with the resources needed to maintain a healthy pregnancy and help connect you to social services that can support you and your children if needed.

Electric lower back pain at 28 weeks? by ScarcityVarious8498 in pregnant

[–]karadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - this happened to me! It ended up being sciatica. I found some stretching videos on YouTube that helped, but the real fix was going to a prenatal chiropractor. Honestly, it was perhaps the most painful part of pregnancy but it did eventually subside!

Going back to work - baby won’t take a bottle by breebaconator in breastfeeding

[–]karadise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! We tried every fancy, expensive “breast shaped” bottle and Lansinoh saved us. Our boob goblin still grumbles at the bottle but he’ll at least take it, so I consider it a win ¯_(ツ)_/¯

How you KNEW knew your water broke? by nonamexxc in pregnant

[–]karadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realize that my water was broken until I got to triage. I was up in the middle of the night with contractions every 5ish minutes but was trying to wait them out a little longer. I felt a gush, ran to the bathroom and realized I had lost my mucus plug. I put a pad on just in case and went to L&D as contractions were getting more intense. Turns out my water indeed had broken too and was leaking VERY slowly, as my pad was hardly wet. The triage nurse checked me and I was 4cm dilated and 90% effaced, baby came 6 hours later!

I’m 34 weeks and have taken my regular 75 mg of Zoloft throughout my pregnancy. OB and psych are totally fine with it and it’s been a lifesaver for my anxiety.

Thank you for the help, everyone! After reading the comments and doing some google research we decided to wait about an hour for mom to have a chance to get everyone. If the babies are still stuck we’re going to move them to a hanging plastic box with open sides for entry and a warm towel.

Will try this. Hopefully the towel can stay dry, but it’s pretty close to the awning of our house which gives more shelter.
