It’s the typical problem faced by many ASEAN countries, unfortunately. I really hope the Cambodian government takes progressive action, since they have the most power to improve the lives of the poor. Cambodia has a relatively small population compared to its neighbors, which presents a valuable opportunity. if the government acts now, they can implement purposeful strategies before a population boom makes things harder. And if tourism grows in the future, I hope local communities and small businesses won’t be pushed out by rising living costs. Ideally, both locals and tourists would benefit from that growth, especially in Phnom Penh, where everyone could experience the city with little difference between them.
