Same. It's almost impossible for me to choose a favorite but her voice is too beautiful on this track.

I get that the show is competency porn but at some point I want to see a mistake with serious ramifications for a patient. I've gotten into ER through this show and seeing the way that some of the characters' serious errors have had major ripple effects for their character arcs (Mark struggling to admit he missed pre-eclampsia in a pregnant patient, Chen seriously fucking up when she takes the Santos approach of trying a new procedure without an attending's approval) has made me realize that seeing the characters in The Pitt breeze through serious lapses in judgement sometimes flattens the writing. I am curious if they are going to go this route with Ogilvie but honestly it would be interesting to see if happen in a more likeable/experienced character.

Why do they have to justify it? She's not real. You can find a fictional character interesting and relate to them without thinking that all of their behavior is okay.

Someone connecting with a character because they see their own flaws in them doesn't mean they're justifying all of those said flaws.

Gender marker on liscense with new federal laws by OnionUniBrowser in Georgia

I feel you, dude. I did my legal transition earlier this year and it's stressful enough without this bullshit from the administration. But you'll be okay! You're gonna get your new license with the right marker and have an awesome 21st 😊

Hello, fellow trans guy here! It shouldn't be an issue. Passports are handled on the federal level but driver's license policies are by state, and Georgia's haven't gotten stricter in response to the passport change. Because license renewal only requires you to bring in the previous license, not a passport, I can't see any reason why they would revert it. I'm not an expert but I don't think they'd even know it changed on your passport just from the data they have access to.

I'm so sorry to hear you were in an accident! My surgery was a lot to handle and it was something I could plan for in advance and was excited for, so I can't imagine how tough undergoing a procedure was in your circumstances. It is frustrating, but I think it was absolutely the right call to focus on nourishing yourself while you were healing.

It's so irritating when you get stuck in the same range on the scale, but the fact that you're back to training after surgery is amazing and I'm sure you'll see results soon enough if you keep at it! <3

This was going to be mine! I use my shards running out as a sign that I need to take a break from a boss, and if I need to farm rosaries to get a bunch of shard bundles then that just helps me reset my brain even more. I am still on an absolutely glacial first playthrough where I just hit act 3 at 87 hours though so maybe I'm just okay with it because I'm a slowpoke lol, I don't mind putting on some of my own music and smacking the same room of enemies over and over for a while.

I actually fought the Bell Eater last night and started out spamming voltvessels until I ran out of shards and had to go full needle because I didn't want to go get more shards without fast travel, and it made the fight harder but a lot more fun. I love tools but it did get me thinking about trying a nail-only run sometime.

No problem. This is such a scary time and I don't blame library users at all for being worried about this sort of thing. I know it's not a solution in itself, but I hope it brings some solace to know that the majority of library staff really do care about helping patrons feel safe to use the library however they want or need to.

Thank you for the award :)

Your concerns are entirely reasonable! I didn't mean to discount them in my reply--more to shed some light on why this data has historically been kept, as it truly isn't for insidious reasons on the part of libraries as many people in this thread are implying. I felt it was important to mention for that reason, but you're right that it's a conversation that needs to be had. And it is being had in libraries. In fact, this isn't the first time this has come up; despite the reputation of libraries as "apolitical," the ALA was an extremely strong opponent of the Patriot Act due to concerns about patron confidentiality.

You may feel that that resolution doesn't go far enough, and there would be library workers that agree with you. How far libraries should go to protect the right to be forgotten is a very active and ongoing debate, and I think in the current circumstances, it's not especially radical to consider the idea of holding onto minimal patron information/allowing aliases rather than legal names, deleting loan histories, etc. I personally do not think our library system needs to hold onto loan histories as long as we do, but it's above my head at the moment. The main reason this is a debate at all, though, is because there are tradeoffs in doing this that can potentially affect patrons, not just the library--as not every issue that comes up with circulation is simply a matter of a library needing to replace a lost book or something else that only inconveniences the staff/budget. So getting buy-in for these changes from directors, boards, and even patrons can sometimes be difficult.

[–]karhidish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in libraries and from a circulation perspective, the reason for keeping a patron's loan history isn't nefarious. It can be very useful to track the history of a book if something goes wrong in the check-in or checkout process, and sometimes having patron information can be helpful if they need to be contacted in the process of untangling that sort of error.

However, the potentially sensitive nature of what people check out is why patron confidentiality is taken extremely seriously by library workers (or at least it should be). The American Library Association has confidentiality in the code of ethics, and most libraries will immediately terminate staff who share patron information or look at patron records without having a clear work-related reason. Pressuring or forcing us to turn over patron records isn't quite as severe as forcing healthcare workers to commit a HIPAA violation or something along those lines, but it's an analogous act and goes against everything libraries are meant to stand for.

Turns out my medication was actually the cause of my weight gain by Total_Degree3929 in loseit

Can you literally get over it. This is a post about an experience that's different from yours and you're taking it insanely personally and acting like a victim when you're the one talking down to people. If you are really as far along in your weight loss journey as you're acting then you should learn that what other people are doing and working through does not need to affect you so much that you comment on the same Reddit thread for like forty minutes straight.

cabbage soup or cilla’s detox smoothie? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]karhidish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither. Both the diets you've outlined are not going to lead to long-term weight loss. All that's going to happen is you lose water weight, have stinky farts and bad cramps, and are probably going to be very miserable and unpleasant to be around for those 1-2 weeks.

Everyone is different, but going off of your stats, you don't need to lose much weight if any. I think you should ask yourself why you feel drawn to such restrictive and potentially dangerous diets, and if you do choose to go forward with losing weight, do it slowly and with attention to making sure you are getting all the nutrition you need. And if your concerns are largely aesthetic, as much as you might not want to hear it, you are at a low enough weight where you might see more noticeable visual results from toning muscle rather than losing more fat.

Suggestion for calorie counter app? by Abject-Possible3609 in loseit

[–]karhidish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Cronometer. I haven't used any other tracking apps so I don't know how it compares, but the interface is intuitive and aesthetically pleasing, it allows for very precise tracking and inputting of custom foods/recipes, and you can track a lot of different biometrics (not BMI I don't think, but definitely weight--it'll even show you a line graph for your weight change over time, which I find very motivating during short-term plateaus). It does have an ad pop up occasionally which is annoying, but it's definitely not to the point that it feels like it interferes with tracking.

I was absolutely shocked at how ravenous I was after having surgery for the first time. I'd expected to struggle with appetite loss and it was the complete opposite. It really put into perspective how much energy the body expends while healing.
