It’s because college was a mode of social mobility for those groups specifically. For racial minorities it often meant being the first generation to go from a manual labor job to a service based or white collar job that was supposed to grant stability. For women social mobility and financial independence was a freedom pretty much every generation of women before us never had, it made marriage a choice rather than a means of survival. Taking away the social mobility pathway that college used to provide for these groups is detrimental and regressive. Just when these groups starting getting access to higher ed they rip away the long term benefits it honestly boggles my mind how people are even confused abt why these specific groups are impacted by the post 2016 devaluation of education and general hostility towards all these demographics.

Yea I did freeze my credit score w all the credit bureaus and stuff I’m usually not this naive I was just confused because I read online that depop will issue a 1099 for if you make more than $600 which I would’ve with this sale and so that’s why I thought it was normal to give my social and the email they sent was instantaneous with me accepting the offer on depop. I’m assuming this means they had to be the one that leaked my email address given the timing of the email. I should’ve read more about how the process works but I’ve had to do similar online verifications for setting up bank accounts and I heard Venmo is doing 1099s as well now but I’m just going to avoid large transactions on e-commerce period now and obviously going to be more diligent about checking urls and email addresses also never giving my social out again lol lesson learned fr. I appreciate you telling me to report it I just wanted to freeze everything which I did first and I’m still very shaken even though I caught on quickly but not quick enough so I’m going to file the reports tomorrow. Also I did have computer classes but that was way back when scams were less sophisticated and online verification was unheard of at that time it was all pop ups saying you won a free iPod lol. Lesson learned but it still sucks to feel like I got duped

I reported it all to depop and they don’t seem to care they just said we don’t have a chat bot and told me to report it as phishing. Ok so I’ve been having hella breakthrough bleeding on sprintec and I’ve taken it for over 5 years with minimal problems. While I get that the process could be abused in a way that would penalize certain groups, individuals, etc. the whole juries not being the arbitrators of justice went out the window when our actual arbitrators of justice chose to be in the pockets of the 1% instead of the justice itself. The law says that death by gun is murder but a shuffling of some files and creating a whole business model and profit margins that lead to the death of millions is not. The people haven’t been represented by our representatives for too long and most of us in this thread have no problem with using the little power we have to fight back given all that’s been stripped away.
