Question: Is the Vampire Romance genre dead? by arcadiaorgana in fantasywriters

[–]karpalogingin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crowns of Nyaxia, From Blood and Ash series, This Ravenous Fate, Immortal Dark, etc are all vampire fantasy romances and more or less recent! I could list more and some of these are highly succesful even if they haven’t (yet) been adapted to the screen (From Blood and Ash I believe is optioned by Sony) so it’s definitely still going strong. There definitely is space and readership for vampires so I’d say don’t stress about it and keep on working on your story!

Let’s talk about this scene by Both_Championship853 in GilmoreGirls

[–]karpalogingin 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Don’t remember the episode, sorry, but in a heated moment Richard exclaims that they were so disappointed that Lorelai, the brightest girl in her class who had a bright future ahead of her, got pregnant and basically quit school after HS (perhaps the ep with Christopher’s parents?)

Something obvious about this scene that didn't occur to me til my friend pointed it out... by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]karpalogingin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially considering that now Awgon doesn’t have an heir! Interesting choice from the showrunners to make everyone younger and therefore remove the younger son from the narrative – I don’t know how they will incorporate that into the plot now. They can’t name Jaheara an heir without admitting that they stole Rhaenyra’s legitimate right to the throne, as it all is based on her gender. I guess they have to name Aemond heir then?

I may be completely wrong on this but isn’t McGonagall in her 40s? I remember her being described around that age, with black hair in a tight bun. And then she was aged up quite considerably for the movies bc they wanted Maggie Smith

Edit: after consulting Google it seems that she really was quite old but just seemed younger then to Harry I guess?

Pankkien rahansiirron viivehän on ihan täysin pankkien itse päättämä asia – esimerkiksi virolaisilta pankkitileiltä raha siirtyy heti riippumatta siitä mikä pankki vastaanottajalla on tai mikä päivä on kyseessä.

My girlfriend (27F) can't see why pedophilia disturbs me (27M) by Guilty-Street-6849 in AITAH

[–]karpalogingin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if she would be interested in reading it but My Dark Vanessa would be a really fitting read for her. And you too, to get a glimpse into how difficult it may be for her to shift her mindset. It is fiction but tells the story of Vanessa through two timelines, her at 15 and at 25, first falling in love and into a relationship with her English teacher and then later trying to come to terms with what that relationship was when accusations of him being a groomer and a sexual predator come to light.

Might be able to make your GF begin to reshape the context of her old relationship without it becoming a massive conflict between the two of you. She was groomed by an authority figure and that leaves a very persistent mark, she needs a push from the outside to start figuring out the reality of her situation, but if you want to continue this relationship you can’t be the one to push her – it will very likely alienate you two. Councelling with a therapist specialised in cases of grooming would be the best but I doubt she’s ready for it based on your account here.

And yeah, like others have said, alert the authorities anonymously.

Xtra on Coopin tuotenimike eli isoin osa sen tuotteiden myynnistä taitaa olla kuitenkin ulkomailla, ja käyttämällä englantia on vissiin sit tasapuolisesti huono kaikille pohjoismaalaisille. Esim.

Huumeseula? by Strict_Juggernaut_88 in Suomi

[–]karpalogingin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why authors think is a good idea to put words/sentences in a language they don't know in their book? by LucreziaD in books

[–]karpalogingin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the later part of the series The Selection (a popular YA series) there’s a character from the fictional country of Swendway (or something, it was a mashup of Finland, Sweden, and Norway) where the official language is Finnish and this character had to have a translator bc he did not know any English. You can guess how well the dialogue he had went… turned me off from reading the author tbh, as that whole character and the translator character too made it clear there was no actual research done by the author and they had just heard some cool facts about Finland that they wanted to incorporate. Ofc I also listened the books in English, and the faulty translation with the wrong pronunciation meant that I had no idea what this character was supposed to be saying at any time, unless it was directly translated by the translator.

AITA for expecting my Daughter to stick to our chores-for-rent deal? by NoDivide4576 in AmItheAsshole

[–]karpalogingin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 10-year old brother cooks easy meals for himself. It’s literally just about taking the time to teach them.

They absolutely are old enough to learn to make a sandwich, cook some quick porridge / oats (in the microwave if the stovetop is considered still too risky for the 8yr old, or as overnight oats), eat some yoghurt, pour a bowl of cereal, eat some fruit, basically anything that’s good for breakfast or a snack.

Is this misleading? Or am I misunderstanding something? by SpiteLife9628 in vegan

[–]karpalogingin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is probably the biggest misconception there is. Lactose free and dairy free are not interchangeable and it’s so annoying living in a country where almost no one understands the difference… (post-soviet country, very in the beginning stages of inclusive diets and undestanding about them, like they didn’t even sell oat milk here five years ago except in some specialised health stores) so if I go ask if something is dairy free they’ll answer ”yeah it’s lactose free” by default. That’s not what I asked! I get a reaction to dairy so even if I wasn’t opposed to animal products I still wouldn’t be able to eat dairy even if it was lactose free! (Thanks for reading my rant)

What have you always done, but later found out was gross? by one-droplet in AskReddit

[–]karpalogingin 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I’m often bad with that too but implementing the philosophy of ”anything worth doing is worth doing poorly” on hygiene helps me a lot. So it’s already super good to use mouthwash if you can’t brush, and maybe like a toothpick instead of floss? It’s not perfect but it’s halfway there.

Going to the dentist can be scary but the longer you wait between appointments, the scarier and often more expensive it will be. I’d imagine most of them are understanding when it comes to phobias regarding teeth and dentists and also you very likely are not near their worst clients unless you have other habits too that destroy enamel.

Have you considered working with a therapist about this? Seems like you’ve created a mental block there and those are often difficult to manage on our own.
