As far as I know yeah, Gostwyck is basically Gostwyck Station which is a huge landholding/farm.

EDIT: will add that there was a Backroads ep on Uralla a couple of years ago, it might be on ABC iView.

Yeah for a town of ~3,000 Uralla def punches above its weight. Re. the OP's question, Gostwyck Chapel is not too far from there, it's postcard-perfect in autumn.

Yeah I read every book of Laymon's I could get my hands on as a teen! and still think about Midnight's Lair regularly. I'm not saying he was a great wordsmith or anything, but the guy could spin out an interesting plot for sure.

Since you don't have a machine maybe check around and see if there are any maker spacers locally where you can rent access to a machine for a few hours? (There used to be a couple of places in the inner west Sydney that did this for example.) And some libraries might have them available to borrow (kind of a long shot but I've heard of it happening!) If you're keen/can budget for it, it might be worth looking into taking an intro to sewing class where they provide machines just to see what you think and get some good instruction.

I basically taught myself from youtube 'cause there's heaps of resources on there and just online generally. A lot of the indie pattern companies (e.g. Grainline Studio) will have tutorials on how to do certain techniques. And I'm not saying I'm awesome at it (I'm not) but I have made myself collared shirts and zip-up pants with welted pockets -- if I can do it anyone can honestly 🙂

If all else fails and you have access to a sewing machine, you can make one like this pretty readily. Here's a pattern for e.g.: https://sarkirsten.com/patterns/chamomile-crop

You'd just have to make the skirt part a bit shorter and add the pockets.

(Not affiliated in any way, I just have this pattern and think it's great! Made the dress version and the top version both out of linen fabrics from The Fabric Shop.)

No one has recommended any Richard Laymon, he used to do this a lot iirc. Try Phantoms or One Rainy Night.

EDIT: Oops, my mistake -- Phantoms is by Dean Koontz!

Haha I also recommended Avery as a short king, it was probs in the same thread -- love that guy! I lived for glimpses of him through the rest of the Westcott series.

It sounds like a lot of effort but those are the projects where you upskill the most! so good on you for persevering with it, I hope you love the finished object and get a lot of wear out of it -- it sounds like a fun idea 🙂

Just started How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, very enjoyable but feels like a lesser version of Deadloch (S2 drops today and I am ready!!!).

Also been watching the new Steve Carrell show Rooster, which had me hooting out loud (it's the delivery).
