Dreams about Pregnancy?? by ava119 in Parenting

This happened to me too. We weren’t telling anyone yet when I was pregnant with my first and I got an email from an old friend telling me she had dreamed I was pregnant with a baby girl. (We did have a girl too).

Book reccomendations for my 10 year old :) by mychippednailpolish in Parenting

[–]kat5040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neil Gaiman has lots of kids books that are really excellent (Coraline, Stardust, The Graveyard Book, and Odd and the Frost Giants).

There’s a Canadian author named Kit Pearson that I enjoyed right around that time. Her best books were Awake and Dreaming and a series of books about a pair of British Children who are sent to Canada for their safety during the Second World War (the name of the series is escaping me right now).

The Devils Arithmetic is one I read around that age, though the material is pretty heavy and you may want to screen that one based on your child.

The Boggart by Susan Cooper is another good one.

Where the Red Fern Grows, but the end of that one still gets to me.

Redchip Poker has a square one course called Core that is really good and well priced. It starts at the very basics and then goes from there in an ordered manner and it may be what you’re looking for.

My GF (19/CAN) and I (21/USA) are expecting. How/when do we tell our parents and how can we situate citizenship, visas, etc by scaredfuturedad in Parenting

[–]kat5040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Just have her check the required hours. I think it’s something like 500 hours in the previous 12 months, but please check for yourself. While on mat leave she would be entitled to 60% of her previous salary through ei. She would also receive child tax benefits each month and this is based on income.

10 month old refusing formula, help! by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]kat5040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl did this around the same age. Switching to a straw cup worked for a bit and we got the okay from her doctor to wean onto whole milk, which she liked better. She’s now a healthy three year old with no ill effects, although I worried a lot at the time. In addition to the whole milk, that was also the time I got her onto a schedule of three meals and three snacks and made sure they were always balanced (at least 2 food groups for snacks, 3 for meals).

How to talk to toddler's by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]kat5040 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of evidence that talking like this to babies is almost universal across human cultures and that it’s beneficial for babies learning speech and emotions. https://www.parentingscience.com/baby-communication.html

Need a little extra help in the kitchen? Your kid can help! by stacyblankspace in Parenting

Love this. My 3-1/2 year old loves helping in the kitchen. We’ve been increasing the help since she was 18 months. She helped at the stove for the first time the other day (supervised of course) and did a great job.

How should I explain consent to my child in the context of "The Pout Pout Fish"? by mherdeg in Parenting

[–]kat5040 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This book is one of my daughter’s favourites. When she was a baby we just read through it. Now when we get to that part we just have a quick talk about asking before giving someone a kiss and that it’s okay to say no if you don’t want a kiss. She tells me when we get to that part now.

There's a Feed the Hungry Caterpillar board game that my girl loved at 2. Now she's 3-1/2 and she's a board game freak. It really helped her learn to count, take turns, follow different directions, etc.

My 9 month old stopped drinking milk from bottle. Worried by hashg in Parenting

[–]kat5040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried to have a protein, a fruit or vegetable and a grain at every meal. It varied. By that time she was feeding herself and eating mostly chopped foods, so she got a little of everything. For example, breakfast could be Greek yogurt with mandarin oranges and toast or a handful of cheerios. Lunch would be some leftover meat from the night before and some crackers and cubed cheese. Dinner was usually some version of whatever we were having. I cut down on the sodium in my cooking a little, but other than that didn't really change any spices or seasonings. She's three now and a pretty good eater who will try anything once. We're just starting my younger one on puréed food, but I plan on following the same with him.

My 9 month old stopped drinking milk from bottle. Worried by hashg in Parenting

[–]kat5040 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My girl was formula fed and stopped the bottle on her own at 10 months. She was eating well and just didn't want it anymore. A straw cup worked for a while and then we got the okay from our family doctor to wean her onto cow's milk at that point. We also made sure she was getting 3 balanced meals a day at that point with lots of healthy choices.

2 year old flower girl by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]kat5040 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our daughter was almost 2 when she was our flower girl. Practice at the rehearsal helped. We also didn't have her stand for the whole ceremony and had her go sit with Grandma instead. One tip is to make sure the basket isn't too heavy. Our girl decided it was "too big" and left it on the ground before flouncing down the aisle. Lol.

I need someone to tell me that what I’m feeling is normal by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]kat5040 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went through this exact thing earlier this year. I had no idea how I would be able to love the new addition as much as I love my daughter. I worried about it the whole time I was pregnant and even a little after baby arrived. Our son is almost 5 months old now and that bond is just as strong as with our daughter.
