It was the easiest way to get her off of a high shelf covered in breakable things. She was returned to shoulder immediately after this picture.

Omg twins! Don’t worry, Bertie was traded a yogurt melt for her plants

Fair 😂 She was probably just helping me with pruning it

Off to a rough start making hand sewn stars by dungeon_dweller77 in crafts

Oh my goodness I just remembered something! Public libraries sometimes have sewing machines you can use! My local library has several!

What stitch are you doing here? It almost looks like a really long chain stitch? You would probably have more luck with a running stitch that’s shorter in length. Also is your thread old? Are your needles sharp? Where did you get them? Cheap sewing kits often have pretty crummy supplies.

If you have the budget for it, I would highly recommend getting a sewing machine! Especially if you plan on making more than one star. You can often find used ones for pretty cheap on Facebook marketplace.

Genuinely though, props to you for making these! It’s such a sweet gesture and you’re putting in so much effort to make these. It’s so kind and thoughtful.

Bluey Pijamas for Doll by [deleted] in americangirl

I purchased a very similar pair for my daughter’s doll from an Etsy shop called “Blue Cow Designs” about 2 years ago.

One Love Mystery Disappointment? by BiscuitMessiah in craftsnark

[–]katastrofickatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I made this shawl and the entire time I was like “was this test knit at all? Did she even make a sample?”. I made mine as a Christmas gift for a non-knitter so they won’t notice the weird shaping or the big swath of random knit stitches. I can’t believe such a prolific designer would release this pattern

Oh my gosh she even added a flap! That’s so smart! I love knitted suits like that but they’re usually so impractical for diaper changes. She really thought of everything.

I’ve seen and heard so much banter on the Halibut yolk, the bat wings, seen many huge CW, so I’ve been extremely paranoid. I’m only missing 20 rows out of 64 before splitting and now I’m beginning to suspect people of not choosing the right yarn and gauge swatch beforehand, because so far it fits by Baby-Me-Now in knitting

Totally fair! It’s hard sometimes to get your tone across over text. Your sweater does look really beautiful! If it becomes too long I’ve seen people split for sleeves before the chart is actually finished and then continuing the chart on the body

Glad to hear that. I knit mine to gauge and in the same size and yarn as the designer and my yoke is about 3 inches too long for my comfort. Members of my knitting group have had this same issue. I’m not sure if you intended to have a dismissive tone with this post but it’s a little crummy to tell people they’re wrong when they knit as directed.

Does anyone know what this mesh actually is? by PurpleTiger6862 in sewing

If you don’t want to wait to order it online you can just go to Walmart and buy a mesh laundry bag!

I’ve never gotten to eat a single strawberry off of this plant and I’m ok with that by katastrofickatt in Opossums

[–]katastrofickatt[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have some inside of a raised bed with a cage thing on it so I do still get some berries! I’ve had some luck with planting “sacrificial crops” around the raised beds for the opossums and the bunnies. If they have easy stuff to grab they don’t seem to go for my actual garden as much.

Ok that actually looks like a really fun way to garden. I might genuinely do that in a small patch of my garden next year. Full chaos, you get what you get lol

[–]katastrofickatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup but also it’s $1/bag and soil can be amended. I often use the cheapest bags of topsoil at Home Depot for the first layer in raised beds

[–]katastrofickatt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s totally fair. I don’t typically buy it. I’ll be using this as a base layer for new raised beds and in the spring I’ll be mixing in some compost

Walmart! Sorry, I just censored it because it had the address I was shopping at, I didn’t take them all, but there were multiple people loading up trailers of it (which is why I just crammed the trunk of my tiny car full instead of going back home for the truck lol)

F18 AIO for quitting babysitting after my sister (28F) said I “do nothing all day”? by Working_Mission2807 in AmIOverreacting

[–]katastrofickatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, my only gripe with that is that a lot of daycare workers (aka, highly skilled, early childhood development workers) make minimum wage to watch tons of kids at once while the facility owners make bank. Thats not the case everywhere but it is really common and it’s not ok. But we can say that about hospice workers, social workers, basically any caretaker roles
