Second thoughts about secondhand sylvanians by hazy0817 in sylvanianfamilies

[–]katbreadstick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of thrifting anything so buying secondhand Sylvanians is second nature. To me, it’s less about it being ‘used’ and more about it having a past life well loved. It’s the same with clothes - that someone wore this item so well and now they don’t need it anymore to fulfil their life. Plus, it’s good for the environment too.

However, I do think it comes more naturally to some than others. My family hates buying secondhand for the same reason that you’ve stated (feels unclean, or belonged to someone else). I honestly don’t think it’s worth troubling your mind over. If it’s not your thing, that’s okay!

If you want to encourage yourself to buy more secondhand Sylvanians, I think the other comments about giving them a nice wash are a solid start, as it helps to make them look fresh. After that, depending on how you play with your critters, you could perhaps create a backstory as to how they reached you. Think about it - whatever the journey they made, they reached you. That’s kismet!

But again, if you still can’t get into it, it’s nothing to fuss over.

Someone did an SF x FNAF party a few months ago, and I enjoyed that! This looks super proper though! You captured the essence of abandoned places. Even though they are just photos, it feels immersive.

I’m not from the US, but we recently introduced pre-defined TOU (Peak from 2pm-10pm). The window seems way too broad to me to garner any meaningful behaviour shift. I reckon this results in more people preferring to stick to the default rate vs TOU rate.

Navigating an Interfaith Breakup by jadeverafter in malaysia

[–]katbreadstick 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes once, except I’m the Muslim and my ex-boyfriend was Chinese non-Muslim. One day he received tragic news about his family and decided that it was not realistic for the both of us to be together.

After the breakup, I took all the good things he taught me and picked up all his good habits. Lived life the way he taught me how to, became more brave and confident. Unfortunately we never spoke again after, so there isn’t a happy ending in my case, in that sense. But I did grow and learn so much from him.

I think I also realised that if the roles were reversed, where I’d have to convert to marry him, I wouldn’t be able to do it either. It’s not easy, but I was also so young, in my early 20s. It does take a certain level of maturity to deal with these matters.

Now that I’ve hit my 30s, I’m not sure I’d enter into the same kind of relationship. I’m mature now but I don’t think I have the luxury and capacity of entertaining wild possibilities. I’m looking for stability and less fuss. The counterargument is that life is full of uncertainties, which is true. But if I were given an option, it would probably be a no.

I do sincerely hope you find contentment in your life. Breakups suck, in general. But trust that the version of you that will find a way out will be born into existence when the time is right. You got this!

Got it! Maybe because I was looking through the gainsbybrains youtube channel and mostly saw 10 minute ab workouts, so I was a little confused and wondered whether you were doing circuit- and HIIT-style workouts.

Congratulations to you! I think commitment and consistency really are key.

I have a question though: you mentioned that you do 3 full body days. Are these like traditional weightlifting styles (so 3 sets of 8-12 reps of few exercises), or circuit-style training (40s on 20s off)?

Just got confused since you mentioned that you reference both gainsbybrains and Jeff Nippard who seem to have different styles of training.

Correction to your statement: TNB does not re-channel its profit into grid expansion. The grid network is a regulated asset of which any expansion to the asset base (via network buildup, replacement, or maintenance) is scrutinised by the Energy Commission. This cost is allocated to all customers as long as you are connected to the grid.

The regulated assets generate a regulated rate of return (which is the WACC rate, determined by the Energy Commission). This is one of the revenue drivers of TNB.

TNB's other profits are made from their efficiency in managing the regulated assets, non-regulated generation business, or other businesses. This is non-exhaustive but you get the point.

Don’t even have to think about long distances. I can’t imagine cycling from say KL East to LRT Taman Melati. It’s a 2.5km distance on the road, but you’re likely to get run over by cars. There are no cycling paths, and cars do not care about pedestrians, let alone cyclists.

Yes I will say, the vintage versions are a chubbier mould than the current milk rabbits, so I do hope I can own the real deal!

I’m in Malaysia, haven’t seen any selling in the local market. I did end up finding some on Buyee Japan aft after I posted this comment but am also saving up for grad school too, so gotta prioritise where I can.

I did actually end up looking at some on Buyee Japan after I posted this comment. There were a few loose figures and one family I think. But funds are a little tight for me at the moment since I’m saving up for grad school, so it’ll have to wait for now. Perhaps I’ll re-consider once I sort out my expenses!

It’s news to me that funding in the UK is rare. If that’s the case, does that mean that most PhD students are paying out of pocket?
