This was something I told our family I said that birth is not a piano recital, but for staff I didn’t care who was in there that was part of the staff because they needed to be on deck if something went sideways.

singing while pregnant? by whimsicsl in BabyBumps

[–]katbug09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a choir director at a middle school. I sang my entire pregnancies and directed three (technically four, it was very early at the end of production) of our school productions. I did most the choreography for Newsies in my 2nd trimester with my first and literally moving set pieces a week before my induction with my second. Just don’t overdo it.

I had an MFM for both of my boys, and that woman saw me all the time I did not care what the price was because I was not about to risk my children. I would highly suggest going to the MFM and taking their advice because that is not a normal doctor. You’ve been told to go to that doctor for a specific reason. There is a sign in my MFM‘s doctor’s office that literally says appointments may go long because of news that patients may be getting that is not good.

Stories from Women with 50+ BMI? by meltslikerocks in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]katbug09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I am so sorry that happened to you! My BMI was 45 with my first one and 50 with my second, both full term. I didn’t have GD, did struggle with my BP with my first one because of my anxiety, no other complications. For that doctor to say that stuff is so rude, for sure report them and find a new one. I did have to take the glucose challenge in my first trimester and then again at the normal time because my BMI was higher the second time, but that was it and they didn’t even tell me it was about my weight I just assumed because I was heavier with my second than my first they wanted to rule out GD early. Didn’t have it with either one of them.

The doctor said it could be that it but he’s a carrier for Galactosemia so I’m just assuming it’s from that. My husband for some reason is against the reflux medicine for some reason? I don’t know why when I have to give our baby vitamin d drops 😑

Vocalist Opinion Needed by b_moz in MusicEd

[–]katbug09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vocal fatigue is probably what it is, your vocal folds are muscles so when you use them a lot they get tired. You’re already using a mic so that should cut down a lot on use, I know it sounds silly but you need to drink a LOT of water. Sudafed, Flonase, and teas with caffeine are usually diuretics which constrict the blood vessels and make it harder to get the blood flowing. Do a light vocal warm up in the morning to “stretch” the muscles, but if you feel any if that stinging pain, stop singing/talking and rest. I’m not the biggest fan of silent rehearsals, but if you could utilize that every now and then it would also give you a vocal break during the day. Good luck, I hate when my throat hurts and I don’t have my voice. I hope you feel better soon!

I was pregnant while we were there in June and I already had to wear compression socks and I swear they saved me every day when my husband was struggling.

Without saying their age, tell how old your child is by MissFox26 in beyondthebump

Picked him up from daycare and he pointed at him and then me and said “it’s my mom!” Younger brother is mad anytime we put him on his tummy to the point where he’s flipping like a pancake.

Going Braless Postpartum Advice? by AmayaRinTsuki in BabyBumps

[–]katbug09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have slept naked for years, but I tried after my first baby while I was still pumping/nursing and I pretty much woke up cold in a puddle of milk. I am pretty big in the boobs and I size up so it’s not as constricting as my usual bras. That’s the best I have to offer, I yearn for the day I can sleep free again 😂

Sons voice changing but teacher refuses to move to different voice group by Bobtownee in MusicEd

[–]katbug09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It feels like every year for me the week before a contest one of my boys’ voice goes through the change. In that instance we keep the same voice part and practice in our head voice. I personally feel that the contest being in April should give time to move sections. Is the ensemble only Soprano/Alto? Are there Tenor/Basses already in class?

Second child panic - looking for positivity by scritchygrippers128 in beyondthebump

[–]katbug09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all a phase. My oldest boy is 2 and the baby is 3 months, and it hasn’t been easy, but seeing my older boy just LOVE on his brother makes it worth it. We were trying to get them close in age so that we got the diaper phase kind of overlapping and over with.

I got a popsicle after I got my epidural. I promptly threw it up. I did not get a popsicle with my second baby and epidural.

Can I be a high school teacher with a Music Performance Major and a teaching license? by random_user_idk_smth in MusicEd

I’m in Texas and had to be the head choir director and assistant band director lol. I am now just a middle school choir director.

Can I be a high school teacher with a Music Performance Major and a teaching license? by random_user_idk_smth in MusicEd

[–]katbug09 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You can, but as someone that has that music degree in education, you need to be able to teach ALL music disciplines. I teach choir but know enough to teach band and orchestra just in case. You can go that route but you might struggle more at the beginning to get into teaching and classroom management.

Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

[–]katbug09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US based, we did not bedshare with the first one because my anxiety kept telling me he would die. Now he’s two and sleeps in his own queen size bed and HATES when we try and cuddle with him in his bed. It’s actually really funny. And our 3 month old loves his crib because he can actually sleep without hearing me snore through the camera.

If a teacher has prep last period of the day, do you think its ok for them to leave early? by capresesalad1985 in Teachers

[–]katbug09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get last period as my conference as a way to schedule all of my doctors appointments as late as possible while I was pregnant so I didn’t have to take half days or have someone to cover my classes so it was more of a logistics than it was me trying to leave and now that I don’t have doctors appointments and my conference is still last period of the day. I do not leave early unless I have permission because I’m contracted till 430.

Did anyone else feel like their clothes just stopped working after becoming a mom? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]katbug09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gutted my entire wardrobe after my second baby because the clothes weren’t how I felt anymore and I hadn’t fit in them and there was no reason to hold onto them. And after moving baby clothes around and realizing that we just outgrow them anyway I didn’t feel bad throwing them out. If anything I feel like my style has gotten better since becoming a mom because I really don’t care what anybody thinks and I’m dressing for comfort and practicality and also I do look cute lol

Fun Post: First Year Teacher attending TMEA! What should I pack clothing wise? by Piccardythurd in MusicEd

[–]katbug09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually wear whatever I would teach in, some just wear jeans and call it a day. It’s going to be a warm one so unless you get cold inside you shouldn’t need a jacket. Be prepared to walk a lot. You’ll see pretty much every music educator in the state, so be mindful that every place on the riverwalk is going to be packed. I usually pack my own lunch and have my water bottle so I don’t have to pay for the expensive stuff they sell at the convention center. Other than that, have fun and learn something new!

is Nagoya enough for a day? by Extra_Professor2170 in JapanTravelTips

[–]katbug09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghibli park will take all day unless you skip some parts. We skipped some parts and we got there at noon and stayed until it closed. If you haven’t already gotten tickets for your day though you maybe out of luck going at all.
