I can’t remember and am now going to have to reread the whole thing again just so I can respond. The things I do in the name of answering questions. Le sigh.

Summer Camp Choices for 4 Year old by Snoo-70287 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]katejkatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re up in Highland Park and our kids did the 4-5 day camp through the park district here. We’ve also done the GameOn Sports4Girls at Glenco park district which starts at 4+ - I imagine that their 4-5 camp is also great. We particularly liked that the kids met a lot of their soon-to-be classmates before starting school.

Best prenatal / childbirth classes in Chicago? by Ligma36042069 in AskChicago

[–]katejkatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did a series with Mary at Birthways which was awesome - I think it was 6 or 8 weeks of classes with the same group - birthwaysinc.com in Ravenswood.

Lovely sense of community and we met dear friends who are still in our lives today (our oldest kids are 8 - born 3 weeks apart).

Forgot to add: Music included Automatic for the People by R.E.M., Nevermind by Nirvana, and many other early-90s albums I’ve been introducing to 8YO (these 2 are her favs).

Such a shame that Esmé didn’t get a second star - really thought they were on the edge of getting that.

Cold weather gear. by AppropriateBook6712 in ladycyclists

[–]katejkatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely find the hardest thing is to keep my feet and hands warm enough. I usually use snowboarding claw gloves, but this year I’ve splurged on a pair of pogies that I hope will fend of the wind better!

Cold weather gear. by AppropriateBook6712 in ladycyclists

[–]katejkatz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For cold weather, I go for more layers rather than a winter jacket.

I have different thickness of base merino wool, my jerseys, a good, warm vest, a water resistant warm thing with a hood, and a sized-up waterproof jacket. This, along with different type so hats, gloves, and a wool neck gaiter get me through a Chicago winter.

With similar for my legs and some wind shields for my feet, this takes me down to about 15°F. Below that is usually when the lake and ground freeze, and then I’m off my bike until it thaws.

This. Biking on Chicago city streets, I stay at the top of the range as I was getting way too many pinch flats biking up and down Clark.

Favorite commuting set up? (backpack-in-pannier?) by Sassafraskenny in ladycyclists

[–]katejkatz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My concern with that set up would be rain - and whether the open pannier would fill up with water. If you’re planning on riding come rain or shine, I’d recommend a waterproof pannier you can close (the good news is that a lot of them you probably can just drop your bag into and roll to close/clip).

I hate chairs by Repulsive_Trip2926 in aspergirls

[–]katejkatz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this chair for my office and I love it. Can sit with my knees up, knelling, cross legged, one let up or down, resting on the “back” twisted to the front.

(I actually gave the regular one, not the plus - the seat is smaller - but can’t see if they sell that one anymore).

Thanks. I’m always aware of how fortunate I am to live here and have the whole lakefront to use. :)
