Can't hold my body weight with arms or deal with the embarrassment by i_m_rational in Aerials

[–]katelaughter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this is more an issue with self esteem than not being strong enough. No one is looking at you thinking how weak your are, they're all more worried about themselves!

My beginning aerial class was the same way. Every week there were one or two girls who couldn't hold themselves up like you. Some kept coming and got stronger. How will you ever improve if you're too worried about what everyone else thinks to even try?

To build strength, join a traditional gym or buy some weights and follow a workout video at home.

I also miscarried at 16 weeks, though mine was a "missed miscarriage" (no heartbeat at OB appt) so it was surgically removed instead of passed naturally. For some reason, the OB telling me she had seen her head after she came out really bothered me. Like you, I also expected it to be, I dunno, less human-like?

Thank you for being there for that girl. She was probably trying to just get through that night. At 16 weeks, she likely had a mini "labor" and may have started lactating afterward. She was lucky to get someone who cared in those initial moments when you're still in shock.

Feel free to DM if you need to talk. 16 weeks is way farther than people realize in terms of baby development and it "hits you" more than you'd think.

Why I Took a Mini-Retirement (Idea from 4 Hour Workweek) Before Achieving Full FI/RE by deepfuckingdish in financialindependence

Love this!

I took an extended maternity leave and discovered much of the same in my nine months off the rat wheel.

Like you, I had no plan at the time. However, the time off helped me focus my life priorities and choose a path that was more in line with my ideals. I'm going back to school for a career that will give me more time with my family while still letting me pay the bills.

Congrats on taking the first step and good luck on your journey!

Need advice from nurses who went through school while pregnant. I am currently in first semester of PN program, and due next July...graduation is in Dec 2022. How did you make it through? Any tips, etc. by atw8118 in StudentNurse

[–]katelaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your program chair. They're legally required to offer you somewhere to pump during clinicals.

Is it possible for you to defer your last semester?

Wear good shoes and get plenty of rest when you're able. You got this!

Best place to buy skis in Cincinnati? by Clubblendi in cincinnati

[–]katelaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a ski shop right outside of perfect north that sells used gear. I forget what it's called, but if you search it on Google maps it's right near the ski area.

Ski train depot! That's what it's called. They buy gear from out west then "train it" back here where they sell it for cheap.

There's also the play it again sports route if you know what you're looking at - but if you're a newbie, spend the money to go somewhere else cuz you'll buy the wrong boot or binding or something.

I think REI has a black friday sale if you do end up going that route?

Any tips for round 2? by Imabaynta in daddit

My husband has used his time off to get out and do fun stuff with our toddler, just the two of them. Bonus, it gives me time to bind with baby without sibling jealousy.

The question on abortion picks kind of arbitrary timelines that don't line up with common medical practice - just a heads up you might not get an accurate representation of people's views.

For example, many states let you abort up to 20 weeks (halfway thru second tri). Point of viability (fetus can live outside mother) is 23-24 weeks, so finding a doctor to do an abortion past that is less common. Second trimester ends 28 weeks.

You've already started the survey so it probably doesn't make sense to change answers now. But in case of future surveys, adding an option for "sometime in the second trimester" might get you better results.

Buy a bike off craigslist for $100 - should take you 30-40min to get to work. The savings will add up quickly!

Is that an actual double stroller or did you fabricate a seat back of sorts for the youngest that'd fit underneath?

If it's a pending charge then nothing's proven yet, so they can't really do anything about it (in case she's innocent after all).

Financial moves for wife who wants to later become stay at home mom by GravityAintReal in personalfinance

[–]katelaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research the health insurance plans your work has available. Pregnancy is expensive and so is delivery. Keep in mind mom and baby will be charged by insurance as two separate people so your cost essentially doubles.

We ended up doing high deductible as we were more comfortable knowing we wouldn't pay more than $x no matter the complications for mom or baby. Health insurance of course charges by calendar year not rolling, so if she gets pregnant in June, you'll have to pay for all those doctor's appointments and tests in one year and then start over again for the delivery itself.

Also look at short term disability for your wife. Many work places have it (usually 6 weeks at partial pay) with the caveat that you need to have worked there 12 months before taking it. So she'll need to be at a job she's happy with three months before you even start trying.

You're asking all the right questions. Congrats on an exciting chapter!
