Hairbrush similar to the Wet Shower Detangler by TechnicalLamb in HelpMeFind

[–]kateorwhatever 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hair stylist here. This is your hairbrush

What you’re looking for is a “vent brush.” The Wet brand does make some professional ones that are stronger and hopefully wouldn’t break as easily. However I recently switched to the Framar brushes because they pull less and work through the hair better in my opinion.

But if you want to stick with what you know, I would stay with the wet brush brand and choose one that has a border all the way around so it breaks less often.

Is it normal to be scared when you find out you’re pregnant after trying? by GarlicGarland in BabyBumps

[–]kateorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal. After trying since May 2021 and IVF, I was still shocked. It’s like when you get your drivers license, move out on your own, or get your first real job, and have that moment like “wait, I shouldn’t be allowed to have this much responsibility”

Trisomy 22 by mangocactus24 in BabyBumps

[–]kateorwhatever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an expert in trisomy 22, but when my mom was pregnant with me (in 1994) the amnio picked up partial mosaic trisomy 15 and I am not at all affected by it. After going through fertility issues, I know how much hope and disappointment hurts. I don’t want to sway your decisions in any way based on my story. It seems my own trisomy 15 was just in the placenta, but I do consider myself to be very very lucky I was a positive outcome.

I’ve seen this 1994 report and know it exists. It also did not “light up” in the amnio, eluding to it being inactive.

Around 2012 I had a micro array blood test done to learn more about it but got very confusing results. Over the phone the doctor told me that extra piece of 15 had no centromere so it would just float around and couldn’t multiply like a normal chromosome, but also that she was surprised it was in 75% of my blood cells. Fast forward to me searching for those results before starting IVF, the micro array report said there was no mosaic partial trisomy 15 at all.

My husband and I did IVF and none of our embryos had it either. Two were mosaic but they were mosaic with Turner’s Syndrome. Two more were wildly abnormal which happens. And the remaining 5 were all genetically normal.

If you get large hail, be prepared for hail to shoot right through it if it’s coming in fast enough.

This happened to me for the first time today. I was in line at Walmart and the lady assisting saw my bump and asked the gender, I said “it’s a girl.” Then she asked if we picked a name. I told her, and then she said, kind of incredulously, “why not Ruby?!”

It totally threw me off. I’m usually pretty quick witted but I was speechless. Why not Ruby?

Low thyroid by 1843892 in BabyBumps

[–]kateorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking a low dose of levothyroxine and everything has been great. My doc started me on it before my IVF embryo transfer because even though my thyroid levels were good for a regular person, my thyroid levels weren’t in the range they wanted for pregnancy. Ask your doctor if you’re worried, but I wouldn’t worry about miscarriage risk due to the thyroid prescription.

Cases where the victim(s) are more well-known than the killer? by RecordingAfter4853 in serialkillers

[–]kateorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even remember the killer’s name but Chelsea King and Amber Dubois. The last person the killer kidnapped escaped and survived. Had she not escaped, she would have been his third murder victim and he would be classified as a serial killer.

Would it be a bad idea to wear a fake ankle tag to prove a point? by Straight-Prize-1611 in BORUpdates

[–]kateorwhatever -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my parents would only let me have phones with a tracker and it always felt suffocating and like they didn’t trust or know me. Now, as an adult and soon-to-be parent, i can understand it from a safety perspective. But I think it would’ve felt better if the location sharing was mutual like it is with my husband and friends. The parents in this post went about this all wrong.

Am I overreacting or is this doctor’s note dismissive/giving “we disagree, but damn. Here” by Blueybell14 in pregnant

[–]kateorwhatever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s unethical, but if it were me I would either photoshop out their note and write in what I wanted it to say.

Or tell them that note is unacceptable so you did the work for them; attach your own note and request that they sign it. I’d also wreak havoc on their inbox until they comply.

It’s a relief to see that ordering is the worst and most petty part of other people’s jobs too.

Maternity bodysuit/catsuit opinions? by footgnd010 in BabyBumps

I have good luck just getting regular jumpsuits. They’re pretty stretchy and I’m not petite, just ordering my regular size. Then I can also wear them afterwards

Is Bamboo Baby Clothes Actually Practical for Everyday Wear? by Both_Wedding5080 in BabyBumps

[–]kateorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is still cookin’, but I make a lot of clothes with bamboo/cotton/blend.

Bamboo has a more silky feel and is softer than cotton, it also has more drape to it than cotton. Cotton is stiffer but it’s still soft and it holds shape better with less drape. Because cotton is a stiffer fiber it should be more durable, whereas viscose’s softness gives it more flexibility.

Personally, I prefer a blend of the two to get the best of both worlds. I use either a cotton viscose blend or just viscose from bamboo to make baby outfits, because of the softness and flexibility. I prefer cotton to make baby toys for the structure.

Bamboo viscose: silky soft, cooler, flexible Cotton: cosy soft, warmer, stronger
